Sonar x1 usb soundcard recommended and questions

Hello All,
I've got Sonar x1. HP Probook i7 processor. windows 7.
Now I see I need an external soundcard.
QUESTIONS:
Is just any soundcard good?
Or should it be something like the MBOX? Is Mbox3 good with Sonar?

Thank you all. I'd love to get this running.

tim

    NO

while mbox is a good unit, I personally would not use it with sonar.  the drivers are more compatible with apple than they are with windows, IMO.  some people use mbox without any problems, others have had reports of having some driver problems.  that could be different with the latest m-box mini or other newer mbox units, tho.  I don't know.

look at my website, I have several USB and FIREWIRE external soundcard recommendations.

    Tim,

you have to ask yourself a couple of questions.  1st is how much money?  And do you want the best quality or a small step down to have more channels.? Then USB or FireWire?

Answer those questions and people will be able to help more.

The MBox doesn't get a lot of love - answer those questions and you can look at other interfaces.

Yes, what is your budget? And how many things do you plan to record at once?

Thanks all. This is my first experience switching to all DAW.
All work previously done on digital recorders transferred to PC for tweak etc...

Sonic X1 seemed to fit my brain in how it is laid out. So I got Sonic X1.

Learning curve: found the laptop chip not work with DAW. Had small usb soundcard but latency etc... not work good.

Thus, my need is for the proper 'device' that Sonar will use as the audio card is my main objective.
I also use keyboard, guitar and voice.
It will mostly be just me doing the recordings and/or soundtracks and/or short film scores.

    - Budget is flexible. Naturally the best product for the most cost effective price.
    - Inputs: at least stereo capable. Two mics would be nice also.
    - Don't see reason to go much higher than CD quality unless there is a recommended reason.
    - Laptop does not have firewire input.

Thank you All for your helps,

    Tim

there is a very good reason to record at 24bit instead of 16 bit (CD quality) - 24bit gives you more resolution to work with during mixing before you render down to 16bit for CD quality.

    go to my website
    www.beaglesound.com

look at the soundcard advice and the pages of soundcard recommendations.  if you're using a laptop you need USB (or firewire if the laptop has firewire, but you have to be careful of firewire cards on a lappy because of the firewire chipset it uses might not be TI).

after reading thru the advice, there are 2 pages of soundcard recommendations.  make sure you go to the 2nd page because most of the USB soundaards are listed there.

If you're using Sonar you might do well to look at Cakewalk/Roland interfaces, too.  The Octa Capture keeps grabbing my eye and it'd be quite a step up from my M-Audio Mobile Pre.

I am hesitant to recommend anything though without knowing how many ins/outs you want. If budget is flexible, it's probably best to get more I/O than you need right now so you can grow into it.
