Sonar x2 can't get Asio Driver in Windows 10 to work (brand new Dell Inspiron Intel i7)

Hello!
I recently purchased a new Dell computer with Windows 10.
I am running X2 and cannot get the Asio Drivers to work.
When I use the MME driver, the latency is too much to work with.
Please help!
I have a project that I'm working on and can't even start until this is resolved.
Thanks,
Marsi

    Welcome to the forum Marsi.
We need a little information first. Like what kind of soundcard are you using ?
You cant use ASIO unless you have an ASIO compliance device (or ASIO4ALL).

    Hi, thanks for replying,

    I have an
sound card and an intel processor on a Dell 17 7000 computer, windows 10.
Any help resolving the latency would be great.

    Thanks again,

Hi, and welcome to this forum.
I am guessing that you are using the sound card that is on your pc's motherboard.
In that case, try using WASAPI (Exclusive if available) mode. It will have better latency than MME.
    All the best.

    I have a soundcard too
Any idea what kind of soundcard ? Are you using the one that comes with your Dell ?
If so than im afraid there is not much you can do as your running Sonar X2 (not WASSAPI in Platinum) which would do a lot better than MME.

In my opinion, your only other option is to try ASIO4ALL http://www.asio4all.com/
Just do a little research on installation and set up.
Most of us use external soundcards (a break away box plugged in with USB).
But a cheap solution (if you have not got a semi pro soundcard) is to use ASIO4ALL.
    It will tame the latency.

you see, when it comes to latency..it doesn't matter how good your PC is (Intel I7. exc) it all depends on your soundcard when using a digital audio workstation. If you are serious about doing music on PC I suggest you look in to future options on a soundcard. you can get a used one for under 100 USA dollars.
It only makes sense really.. You spend 100's of dollars on the software but yet the most important part is the soundcard.
It is the motor that drives the vehicle.

    Hi,

When I switch to WASAPI, Sonar says that the driver is in use by another applicatiion, and that tracks are assigned to silent hardware.
    Not sure how to fix.

    Thanks

Do you have YouTube, Media Player etc open at the same time?
    If so try closing them.
What happens if you reboot your pc, and then open SONAR, and choose WASAPI?

I didn't think support for WASAPI came until Sonar X3 and peened in Platinum for Windows 10

It was more for consumer audio devices that don’t have ASIO drivers.

    Hi all,
I'm not running Youtube or Media player, just Sonar x2.
I got the ASIO4all installed and can hear tracks.
I get a message that the master is assigned to a silent output. Trying to fix that.
My next step is to get Sonar to recognize the new Alesis Keyboard controller V49 I bought.
How do I get Sonar to 'see' the V49 and allow me to record? Then I can check for latency.
Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated!

-Go to preferences / midi devices

-Go to the Master Bus and re route it to ASIO4ALL

    Ok, so I went to
Edit, preferences and for input my choices are V59
for output V49 or Microsoft wavetable synth
    It doesn't show asio4all there.
If I go in to each track I can assign to asio4all but some tracks only let me 'see' Microsoft wavetable synth.
I'd like to assign soft synths to most of my midi tracks using the V49 and then I would hear them through the asio4all?
    Not sure how to proceed.
    Thanks again,

    Hi all,
    Thanks for your help.
I'm running Windows 10 on a new Dell computer and have a new Alesis V49 controller.
    I downloaded ASIO4all.
    I inserted a softsynth S1 Bass on Track  4
I can 'play' the softsynth with my computer mouse, from the Synth Rack view, and I checked "enable Midi Output"
but can't get the Alesis 49 controller to register a meter level or sound on the track.
I went to - edit/preferences - midi in with V49 on the top, midi out selected Microsoft wave table synth.
On the Master bus I selected ASIO4all.
I believe I'm missing some simple piece.
    Suggestions?

    Thanks so much.

Uncheck Enable MIDI output in Preferences.
Uncheck Microsoft wave table synth in Preferences.
Route output on your MIDI track to SI Bass, Chennel 1.

In Midi preferences- your V49 should be checked in the midi out.
Don't select the MS wave table. select your V49.

In Audio preferences- select ASIO4ALL as your device.

Also not necessarily the master, it might be your Hardware bus (it is hidden sometimes).
If you can hear any sound, change the hardware bus to ASIO4ALL.

Uncheck Enable MIDI output in Preferences. DONE
Uncheck Microsoft wave table synth in Preferences. DONE
Route output on your MIDI track to SI Bass, Channel 1. ? Should it be to the track number that I have placed the softsynth on, for instance track 2?
In Midi preferences- your V49 should be checked in the midi out. DONE
Don't select the MS wave table. select your V49. DONE

When I play the Alesis V49 I can hear the sounds now, but sometimes hear the wrong sound.
Also, how do I get the track to play only the sound I have on that track, strings, piano, bass etc?
In the synth rack view, how to I select the synth for a specific track?

Really appreciate your help and patience. Almost there, ready to record!

I think I am going to bow out of this thread as it can become confusing with 2 of us trying to help at the same time.
Im sure I am adding to the confusion. my apology's.

My guess is that you are much better at answering this than I might be.
    Sorry if conceived otherwise..
