Sonar x2 issues with windows 8

Hello there. Here is my situation. I had been running a computer with windows 7 and x2 with no problem, but recently that computer fried out on me and I had to get a new one. Being that im not that tech savy to build my own computer, I went out and decided to buy a new gateway computer. Unfortunetly all the computers came stock with windows 8. I was worried that this new OS would have some compatability issues with x2, and my fears were confirmed. After installing x2 without any issues, I then proceeded to install all my VSTs for the DAW. after installing CSR, trigger, and line 6 pod farm in the correct destination folder(program files/cakewalk/VST plugins) I noticed when I would open up sonar and go to my fx, the entire VST folder was missing. Not just the plugins I installed, but the entire VST folder that contains the stock plugins. All the folders are in the right locations, and Im pretty sure the install went smoothly. Can someone please help?

Check the Options in Utilities > Plug-in Manager; make sure it's scanning the right path(s), and re-scan.

I did that. The VST folder popped up now but some of my plugins are still missing.

Actually Windows 8 is the most compatible OS for Sonar X2. If you get the a patch it wont even install on Vista. Windows 7 can't support multi touch.

I would check to see if your VST folders are listed in the folders section of the VST manger.

I'd uninstall the missing plugins and re-install, making sure they either end up in the right folder, or at least that you know where the dlls are so you can then point Sonar's plugin manager at those folders.

I've installed X2 on Windows 8 three times now and never seen the problem you describe so I doubt it's anything to do with Win8 or X2.

Are you still running the same version (32 bit or 64 bit) as you had originally in Win7?

Set X2 properties as "Run as Administrator";  then set the properties for your plug-ins with compatibility mode (Vista, XP3 or Win7) and run as admin while you're at it.  You don't have to do it for all plug-ins, just those that do not behave.  This has nothing to do with whether SONAR or plug-ins are 32bit or 64bit.

Kind regards,

Windows 8 ist much better than Windows 7 for X2.
Best ist to work and install all Software as an administrator in Windows 8.
Maybe some files all locked or you don't see them, if you are not logged in as administrator.
I never had any problems. I have installed X2 on three Computer with Windows 8.

Hi, Bruce.

You have this same post in two threads, which can lead to a lot of disjointed responses.  (I have seen this in the past, and it quickly becomes a giant PITA).

I recommend you try to keep from posting duplicate questions in multiple threads.  Perhaps you can edit the above post to instead indicate a similar issue, and simply include the link to that other thread - that will keep things simpler, in my opinion.

Sorry about the slow reply, been having ADSL connection problems.
Yes, both 64bit Windows Pro (or whatever the WIn8 equivalent calls itself).

I can say for certain that the issue is not related to Win8x64.
The issue has to be config related (install of plugins, scanned VST folders, etc)
