Sonar6 No Automation Mute

Hello. I have three tracks. The first two are instrumental, the third track is my vocal track. I want to mute a section (about 3/4 measure) so my wife can record the same verse in another track. I believe I've followed all the instructions for 'envelopes' but maybe I don't understand the concept.

I get a line in the bottom of the track which I raise above the track. I dropped two nodes in about 3/4 measure apart. It seems I'm missing something as the track plays as normal. Any help here would be appreciated.

Also, what's the difference between a 'clip' and a 'track'?

Regards,

A track is the place where clips are located. A track can contain hundreds of clips.

Please be more specific: You dropped to nodes into the track or pulled two nodes down to lower the volume? Does the line give a visual of the dropped level?
You need four nodes for changing the level of a section: #1 the start of the drop #2 the level of the drop/start of dropped part #3 the level of the drop/end of dropped part #4 return to original level.

    Here's how I insert envelopes.

In the track control area, there is a button with a "W" on it.  Click that button and the W turns red.

Now click play and simply click ONE TIME on the volume fader in that same track.

Click STOP PLAY.... you should now see the envelope in the track.... light blue in color.

Now... go to the place you want to mute or "pull down" the volume. right click on the envelope before the part and select ADD NODE.... you want to add TWO nodes before the event, very close together.... now go to the end of the event..... add TWO MORE NODES in the same manner after the part.

NOW..... click the center line between the 4 nodes and drag it down.

Play through the part and you should have success.

You can zoom in and really get very precise in using the nodes to automate the volume exactly where  you need.

Hi-Followed instructions by GH. Still have vocals through the 'pull-down area'. Any other ideas appreciated.

Well, you could click at the end of the part you want to remove, click Edit>Split clip, then go back to the clip and slip edit the part out by clicking and holding the right edge and sliding it right as far as needed.

If you have snap-to-grid on it's going to start and stop right at a beat, but you can turn that off and adjust it if needed.

It's all non-destructive so your original material remains intact.

Are you sure it's a volume envelope you inserted?
You said the line is below the track and needs to be lifted up. IIRC, when I insert a volume envelope the line shows the present volume, meaning it already is about in the middle of the clip.

It's a volume envelope. I changed the volume and the trim and the 'blue dotted line' relocates when play stopped. Any suggestions appreciated.
