Sonar's media coverage rant : XLN Addictive trigger

Just saw this today : http://www.xlnaudio.com/addictivetrigger

Looks very good, kind of an extension of Sonar's drum replacer feature.

But again, SONAR and other Cakewalk products are just falling into the "other daws" category when it comes to advertising. I've just watched the presentation videos and what DAWs do you think can be seen in them (as an example of "real life" situations)? You guessed it, our friends Pro Tools and Logic Pro! (Last one surprised me, I was expecting Digital Performer).

As far as I can tell, none of these DAWS included Addictive Drums in their bundled products, right? So, thanks for the exposure, Cake...

I'm gonna get some coffee now. Looks I am in a "the glass is always half-empty" state of mind! Silly me...

Yummay,
Amuses-gueules sonores
Bite-sized sounds and harmonic entrées

Is Addictrive trigger a competitor to Sonar's drum replacer ?

There is nothing surprising. It is obvious that at least Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, Fruity Loops and Reaper are way more popular than Sonar. I don't know why, and I don't know how to react, but fact is fact.

Why would they waste time pitching their product to users who already have a free equivalent?

Sonar Platinum (Newburyport) / Win 8.1 64bit / Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 / Absynth / Kontakt / Play / Superior Drummer 2 / ESP LTD guitar / etc

Twilight's Embrace - gothic/death metal | Other works - instrumental/soundtracks

^^ This was my reaction as well. They are selling a product for more than a DAW upgrade with the same feature.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Good point about the free equivalent ! It's just that, a majority of times I am enquiring about third-party products, SONAR does not get that much referencing as other DAWS seems to get... Silly thing, indeed.

I'm using cakewalk since the '90s, I felt then that Pro-Audio (and Sonar afterwards) were not recognized enough to my taste. Still looks like this 20 years later.

Anyway, had my coffee by now... I feel much better!

There's an awful lot of negative internet lore about Sonar out there, some justified, some maybe not. Establishing a track record of stable, performant releases that deliver a good mix of fixes for long-standing issues, rapid response to new ones and innovative new features will go a long way toward changing minds that can be changed. No amount of advertising can succeed in the absence of that.

Cake has taken huge strides in doing what needs to be done this year, imho. A couple of more years of this and Cake probably won't have to advertise at all. Well, maybe not as much.

Another reality is that estimates place the Mac's market share in music at around 55%, maybe even 60% - way out of proportion to the general public. Of that market share, Avid has a major amount, but since Apple dropped the price of Logic Pro X to $199, they've taken a chunk as well. So if you appeal to Avid and Logic users, you've hit a big percentage of the total music market.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!
