Song Somewhere

My second Sonar X1 project complete with all the things I haven't figured out how to fix just yet.

There are a few bars of silence at the beginning.

I hope you like the tune - appreciate your listening and feedback.  And thanks for all the help in this forum!

Not my thing normally but I enjoyed listening to this, better peeps than me to give mix advise.

    Thanks for sharing.

I feel that way many times..... I'd look deeper into that box of letters....

I like the song, but I'm a country writer at heart.

    Nice job on the tune....

I didn't hear a very strong bass .... not much at all actually.  The drums were a bit different... they didn't flow like I would expect to hear in a country tune......  and low in the mix as well. Modern country has bass and drums mixed up higher than that.

I might also use a touch of reverb on the vocals and the mix over all to let it fit better

What things are you thinking you are having trouble with?

On the silence... I would recommend some sort of wave/mp3 editor such as Audacity or Wavepad to load the exported cake file...and then use the "TRIM START" function to eliminate the silence.

    Thanks for the feedback.

This was the first time I used SD3 to 'create' percussion by using layers and the Step Sequencer,  used EQ to sweep, cloned tracks, panned them for fuller sound, and experimented with a lot of plugins.

I really liked the Vintage Channel on both tracks and busses.  The ProChannel too.

The bass line was an acoustic guitar dropped an octave.  I recorded it too low I think, so applied some Boost 11, but was afraid of overdoing it.  Need to re-record it.

I experimented with reverb, but always seemed to end up with too much 'wet' or too low a level, even with presets - have to revisit that.

Have a few pops and clicks in the acoustic guitar/bass track.  I recorded those straight into interface (no mic) not sure what caused them.  I have yet to optimize laptop setting for DAW though.  (I do have wireless and anti-virus turned off.)

I exported to WAV using Pow-r 3 dithering - much better volume/wave form than my first project - and I used Audacity to make an mp3 - will cut that dead space.

    Thanks again.

Good news, your song has been found.  Others have given you good advice on the mix, but I think you are closer than you may realize.  You have a good voice that is well recorded, the acoustic sounds good, and the lyrics are good, too.  Don't overdo this, and apply what you learn to your next song.  Let's hear more from you.

    All the best,
    Lynn
