Can't wait to hear it!

Have you found someone to play bass?

Strummy figures he can do it. How hard can it be to play an Am note?

I doubt he can do it with a pick... those A minor strings are wicked big.

I hope he doesn't tear a finger nail or sumthin.

Not to mention one slip either direction and you off into a Bbm note.

I'm not asking about how many chords in the song as much as I am asking about the idea that a song may only have a single movement repeated over again.

And I'm not speaking of modal playing but specifically songs driven by movement through chord progressions.

Just thinking out loud.

Don't know why I just thought of this - America's "Horse With No Name" uses two chords all the way through iirc.  But, it does seem to be an exception to the hit song formula.

Divorce the scales and play what you feel.

Lots of songs out there never change cord progressions
For instance "what I got" from Sublime was a huge hit, 3 chords, 1 progression from start to finish.

Here is a one chord song from Kieth Urban on You tube.  It was written because on many songwriter forums it's kind of a challenge to write a whole song with a single chord yet change the feel of it.

I just listened to that tune...

I would argue that there two other "implied" chords that you imagine under that melody... and the root chord (If you will) just doesn't get in the way... the song is actually moving through implied chords in the key of G... and in fact at 1:57 Keith's lyrics say excatly what I am explaining.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the link.

"In the Air Tonight" Phil Collins
3 chords over and over start to finish.  one of the biggest hits ever. so there are some exceptions.
