Song - not English
I have posted a song in soundcloud. Its not in English. Lyrics is of one of my friend. I tried to tune and compose. It took more than 8 months to upload and write this post [dilemma] as I am trying to learn, with no formal musical training. I have posted only to get your remarks and guidance. https://soundcloud.com/thematictune/delivulei Regards Snehankur

Hi Snehankur welcome to the songs forum. The tune sounds well constructed and the balance sounds like it could be very close, my only real observation is that there is much to much reverb on the backing tracks, they all sounds to much in the distance and indistinct. This also makes some of the solo tracks, such as the vocal or solo instruments sound in a different space. Thanks for sharing I am sure a few mix tweaks will finish this track.

Welcome to the songs forum! Yes the arrangement is nice. The reverb seems either to be the wrong type or maybe just a bit too much. Great mix otherwise!

What should I start? I am thinking to remove all reverbs and start over to introduce.

I actually don't mind the verb on the background vocals. Maybe just a tad less on the lead vocals and more so on the horns.

yes - start without any reverb and add back in where you think necessary. Vocals sound great with the distant feel in my opinion but as the posts above say, backing tracks have lost their impact by being washed in reverb

My tip for reverb is start with it off, then gently bring it up until you can just hear its effect, then back it off one click. This is unless you want that full on reverb. One other thing I use a lot is an individual reverb on each voice where you balance the wet/dry mix just to get the voice/instrument to sound right, many synths or amps have built in reverb. Then I have a Bus Reverb, which is set 100% Wet, 0% Dry, simple room or plate reverb. This is then sent from sends for each track, adjusted as described above. This reverb then sets everything in the same acoustic space. The send levels might well be very low i.e. only -40dB but adjust to taste.
Happy tweaking.

Should I start with Bus Reverb and then individual or vice versa?

That depends if you are using any Synth's, Amp's or Amp Sim's that already have reverb. It would help if you could describe your normal recording process. Personally I start with just a bus reverb. Then if something like a guitar or a vocal recorded straight from a microphone needs a distinctive reverb then I will use an insert reverb. It really depends on how the overall sound is coming together in the mix.

When I made this I had used only Yamaha Motif RackES. Most of the cases I didn't turn on the reverb of the module. I didn't know how to use VSTi I recorded each of the tracks. I mixed with the headphone. Vocal I used a MXL770 Mic. I used comping and melodyne. Regards Snehankur

Really good song. Cannot probably help with mixing but again my phones tell me to put more bass power.
