Song started on Piano

I've been playing with this idea a little while. I like it well enough, but I think it needs a bridge. I know, w/o lyrics yet, who knows what's what?!? Anyway, have a listen and see whacha think, please. Thanks, Shep http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1870114/Piano%20Tune%20091711.mp3

I like where your going with this. I think what your sorely lacking here is dynamics. This could be a whole different work with better dynamics throughout rather than just at the end.

I'm with the previous poster, work it out.

    Nice work!

Thanks much for taking time to listen and chime in, guys. My deal on piano is that I'm a guitar player who uses piano as a writing tool. Self taught, and haven't time to practice to get better. What I lack in inherent performance dynamics I believe I can make up for in the mix. I'm still waiting on the middle to come to me. After that, it will be off to the races. Thanks again! - Shep

Shep, This has a great start to it. Need to get some guitar and vocals going in this soon. As I was listening I had a thought for a story line or song title- "The Flower You Wear In Your Hair". HA!! It's just what came into my mines eye for this piece, thus far. Needs some bass and drums along with your guitar and vocals. Sounds like your on your way to something nice here. Keep working on it. Will be interesting to see how it goes to the ending.

    Blessings, John

I very much like what you have done so far. Definitely a first class piece waiting to come out of it. My only suggestion (for what it's worth!) is to keep any development simple and light. The piano really talks in this piece and I would not want to see it disappear in the mix. I know this is the wrong thing to say to a guitar player (!), but I would not add guitar. Vocals, light drums and a bass would be perfect. Best Regards, Malcolm

This is just beautiful. Cool chord progression. I wish I could play guitar as well as you play the piano! I'd love to hear this with vocals...and with Ivory. :) If you do decide to finish this with the piano dominant, I'd love to take a crack at the piano sound. :) Wow--this is NICE!!

It is great to hear this tune is pleasing. I wondered when I heard the offbeat 'prechorus' (the Em section) in my head if people would shy away. I like a tune to have some 'tension' chords in a ballad as well - which aren't always the taste of everyone.

@John - I pretty much write all my lyrics, but thanks very much!

@Malcom - I hear this song having quite a dynamic range. I will likely score strings (maybe a quartet for a section) and it will have some layered guitars. I'm a vocal harmony fan as well. But that doesn't mean it won't still feel like a piano led tune. Think maybe Elton John for a big group where the piano is front and center.

@ Janet - Thanks much for the listen and kind words. I only play this way because it's what I hear in my head, and I have to work it out. I consider myself limited as a keyboardist. But I hear whole songs at a time, and know my theory fairly well, so I can make sense of it sooner or later. Just not a accomplished pianist. I used Sampletekk's C7 for this. I like it pretty well. I'm curious what you mean when you say 'I'd love to take a crack at the piano sound. '... Please advise - Thanks!

I'd like to render it in Ivory, if you'd want to send me the midi file. But again, if the piano is going to be buried by an orchestra it doesn't really matter. (and I imagine you can score a pretty beautiful orchestra, so I can't wait to hear this in it's final glory!) :)
