Listened on my phone and I like what you guys did here......very nice performances. Being a guitarist, I really liked your guitar work Beeps (especially the melodic solo....good stuff and chops). Personally, I tend to like more of the European metal as there's a lot more of folk/classical/melodic content and you guys proved this. Will listen later again at my DAW..... Very nice vocals Ken as well as with the all the programming/production Oyvind. Well done lads!!! You guys work well together......more....more.....more!! I'm a fan.

Thanks, Mesher. Yeah, Oyvind is definitely a melodic oriented dude. I'm usually more atonal/chromatic thrash noise and prop it up with more modal mayhem than traditional Major/minor stuff. So it's fun getting to play around with more classical style cadences/chord progressions. It gives me a chance to experiment with "proper" harmonic/melodic minor theory. Neat stuff. Thanks for listening. Also it should be noted that Oyvind was also the mix engineer on this as well (with some incessant nagging and prodding from me as a second set of ears... lol, hopefully I wasn't too annoying).

Wow, an old Norwegian folk melody the way it was meant to be played! I really liked this, esp the guitar work.
I liked the structure of the song eg the nice transition at 1:33 and esp ~2:25 and the ending with the short keyboard phrase. Well done!

Personally I enjoy when you mix up the genres like this. Very nice arrangement. Personally I would like more emphasis on the vocal, but that's probably just me.

Thanks. Well it’s a genre thing I think. And it makes the mix sound more brutal with the vocal like this. But for more POPy sound I would make the voice in the front. That’s just how I see it tho. I am just a beginner…

enjoyed. I was pretty much the only metalhead on the forum a few years ago, nice to see more. A great take on this tune, shows how much in common metal and classical have. The Norwegian language works so well for metal with its mix of soft and hard sounds. Guitars are excellent throughout. Drums sound good in the main although in the longer double kick patterns maybe need to alter velocity more on each kick and add in more click. vocals are a little narrow and recessed, again that actually works in the context of this mix. it's like Hardingrock jamming with Tyr and Vried. Veldig bra!

@Jarvse... All my swords are in the shop for repairs and the only axes I own are the six string kind... although I have had to klonk a few "over enthusiastic" audience members with them back in my wilder days. lol @mgh... There do seem to be a few of us. I think the Sonar flagship package is really quite good for metal (good drums, guitar sim, effects, etc) so I'm not sure why there aren't more metal hounds using it. I just needed to upgrade a couple things at first (TH2, Guitar Rig and I had to get BFD Eco back with X1 but AD2 does a good job on it's own with the right ADpaks). As for the "trigger" click-kick sound I usually avoid that myself but you're right, a trigger sound would work for this style. Thanks for checking it out. @soens... I'm not sure if this particular song would technically qualify but the genre is referred to as "Unblack" metal. Basically Norweigian Black metal but with X-tian lyrical content. It was a pushback against the real over the top satanic stuff that was going on in Norway a while back in the Black metal scene. I'm not a religious guy myself but if the music/message is intended to uplift and spread goodwill... well that I can get behind. And with riffs like what Jarvse puts together it taps into MY version of "religion"... which is music. Cheers!

I use Steven Slate drums which I think are excellent for metal. A lot of people use Sd2 as well. Although I have both guitar rig and amplitude metal more often than not ill use the free LePou amp sims with a cab from gr4. I always use Ampeg vst for the bass. Th3 has got a lot of good press though so will be trying that out for my next (prog rock) song.

For this tune I think Jarvse used Superior Drummer for the drums and Amplitude on my dry guitar tracks (he'd have to confirm). I'd definitely like to try those out (and... well tons of the other quality goodies floating out there these days) but I'm broke and seem to do okay with what I have. Takes a bit of kernoodling though but that's good for me too for the educational value. What I REALLY need is some good mastering tools. I've been wanting to snag an Izotope package for a while (Ozone and RX specifically) and I think Melda's Spectral Dynamics would be a very usefull piece of kit. BFD3 and TH3 are both on my list as well. NI Komplete (which Jarvse uses) would also be an awesome addition. That's all a lot of dough for an upstart like me though. Someday. Cheers!

Oh and for bass I've been running my ancient Squier P-Bass through my also ancient Line6 Duoverb head. It gets a nice tone I can manage once it's in the box. From there I've done experiments with MIDI bass reenforcement. I snagged the Anderton Dim Pro EB5 bass pack which packs a mean wollop for metal and lots of other stuff. Essentially I just concoct nefarious schemes with what I have on hand to get the results I want. Lots of extra work but it's quite educational.
