My second serious thought was...

and if you've never heard it...you have my sympathy..

"Dreams So Real"- Gary Burton
(those are vibes he's hittin' on :)

I love vibes.  I had one for a while.  I didn't learn how to play it the normal way.  Mostly, I used them like an over-sized glockenspiel or a celest.  Mostly to accent the music.

If you haven't heard that and love vibes then I just can't imagine you hearing them any better.
The playing and song writing is simply amazing. I do believe this is one album that will forever be
in that top shelf group.

I've heard bits of Gary Burton here and there.  I've been impressed.  I just don't know why I haven't gotten into him more.  It may be just because I haven't seen his CD's around.  I'll check it out.

I've loved these things since I first heard them a few years back.
I looked into getting one but the're VERY expensive and they don't deliver. You have to go to Sweden or Switzerland (don't remember) to pick it up.

They seem to be similar to those Carribean steel drums.  Cooler though.

Cheater! He used Brazilian percussionists, not drummers per se.

Hi,

Faust -- any of their early albums, were a lot of sound effects and various ideas and things were the "drums", like the sound of a ringing phone, or anything else. Later, as is the case of the BBC special on Krautrock, this kinda turned into using drum stix on anything you find every step you take. OHhhhh that's a cement machine ... ohhhh that's a metal pipe ... and so on!

Stomu Yamash'ta -- He has been used as a drummer, but he really was a percussionist in his early work. Different!

Vangelis -- Uses teaspoons in every album, and it's hard to discern where and which. and in at least one spot, it is like a choir of them, and it comes off as something else, and sounds different and neat.

GuruGuru - - Mani Neumeier has, for many years been a bit of a clown and in the early days the group was known for its large improvisations and weirdness and he was known to use his stix on anything that was in front of him, including people's heads and what not! The sound effect of him hitting Ax Gernrich's guitar which he was playing it (with effects and wah and echo!), is downright cool!

Nana Vasconcellos -- In album with Egberto Gismonti, does not do regular drumming, because he ain't one, anyway! Duas Vozes is the album (Two Voices ... on ECM)

Odo Dabby -- (not sure about the name spelling) He's here in Portland, and he once joked that if someone gave him a drum set he would do the best Keith Moon imitation you ever saw!  And play on it afterwords which Keith never did!

Any song or band that Bapu  has recorded with a drummer in it has hits in it that are not part of the drum kit no?

Bapu usually gets hit by the drummer at least once per someone "presses the record" button" no?

These dudes use trash cans :) Does it count for percussion?

Which dudes?  Blue Man Group?  If there was a link, it didn't make it.

I meant Beirut-Nantes (A Take Away Show), apparently I can't insert a link so you can just check it on YouTube if you want :)

@ Mesh. Boney M was big here, maybe they were bigger in Europe than in USA?
