Sonic Scores Overture 5

https://sonicscores.com/overture/

I just stumbled across Overture 5. Does anyone have any experience with it? It looks very interesting - a notation editor that also allows editing of CC data. They don't have a demo up yet, but I'll DL it when they do. They also have a cross-grade from Sibelius, Finale, Notion.

If I read the web site correctly, it has the ability to tweak note start, end and duration, and to edit controller data. It even has a PRV and track view. It will work with VE Pro 5 (someone on their forums has written a nice tutorial). It won't replace Sonar for me but it could be a tool I would use for composition and export into Sonar.

I have Forte 7 Premium which has MIDI and PRV. I haven't used that feature yet, so can't comment on how it might compare. I also have Notion, so could use the cross-grade price of $129. I like the side panels vs. Forte's floating windows, but that alone hardly justifies the spend.

I read on another forum that Overture was "back", but didn't know exactly what was meant by that. My guess is that v4 was out there for a LONG time, and is just now being upgraded to v5.

Looking forward to real user feedback to see if it's worth $129 to me.

$129 crossgrade price for owners of Sibelius or Finale (I have both and hardly ever use them) has me interested, for sure.

Why did you have to post that? Crap. $99 be gone. Download of Overture5.msi complete.

There was a note on the order page that this is a public beta, with a no charge update upon release (thanks for that ).

Edit: WARNING! The current version DOES NOT WORK on the Mac. The Windows version is getting patched from time to time, but check their forum for latest infos re the Mac.

Why, oh why did you tell us it is only $99? Now I am really tempted. :-)

Aha, there is one little thing...

This is a special introductory offering price.
The Sonic Collection sample library is not included in this release.
The library is coming soon and will be offered at a special price when it is released.

I bought it a while ago for $99. It has a lot of potential, but it is still in beta. I hope everything will be up and running soon, because it looks like it will be awesome once everything works.

The fourth update has finally been posted, after nothing since January. Here's a list of additions and fixes. I'd be interested to know if the Mac version finally works.

    5.0.4 – Enhancements and fixes
    April 16, 2016
    Enhancements
    • Song Position information is now sent to VST/AU plugins.
    • Made a major change to slur playback.
In the past, when you added a slur, the contained notes’s durations were adjusted to overlap by a certain percentage.
Then when you deleted the slur, the durations were still overlapping.
Now, each note’s duration is now adjusted during playback, and it’s physical duration is not changed by the slur. Therefore when you deleted the slur the notes are played using the original note durations. Also, off values for slur playback are now sent at the end of last note under slur, instead of at the start of the last note.
This had caused a problem with some libraries, like GPO when using auto-legato.
The auto-legato key switch was added to the GPO 4 definition file.
    • Added the ability to insert/edit controller data on different voices in Graphic Data view. With All-Voices chosen as the current voice in View menu, Voice 1 is drawn in its color and all other voices are drawn in light grey. Any data entered is entered as Voice 1.
When a single voice is chosen in View menu, the data is drawn in it’s color and all other voices are drawn in light grey. NOTE: Colors are set in Preferences dialog.
    • Added the ability to edit Expressions that send controller information in the Graphic View.
    • Increased maximum horizontal zoom resolution in Graphic Data view.
    • Added ‘w’ shortcut key to for Rewind and rewind now goes to beginning of score.
    • Added shortcut ctrl[cmd] + shift + ‘i’ to enable/disable Step Input.
    • Added key press ‘c’ for selection tool. Shortcuts for Selection, Pencil, Eraser, Hand, Scale, Zoom, tools, can now be set in the Edit Key Commands dialog. Also, these command act as a toggle as in previous version of Overture.
    • Added ctrl[cmd] Page up and down to navigate to next and previous page.
    • “Paste as cue” in Edit menu now paste the source track name at the start of the paste.
    • Added ability to delete tracks using the Eraser tool including Bass clef staves from Piano and Organ tracks. Click on the left edge at center staff line.
    • You can now set the Auto Save location in preferences.
    • Staves on main score now show Solo/Mute icon when individual voices are set using Track Inspector. “Sv” or “Mv” icon means individual voices are set.
    • The default folder location for saving scores has been moved from the Music folder to Documents folder on both platforms. Also when you save or open a file, this folder is no longer changed to that location. The setting is in Preferences.
    • Added a menu item to clear solo and mute on all tracks. Right click on any track in main score to show popup menu.
