Sonitus EQ question!
Hello! I was applying a hi pass filter from the console view in sonar 8.5 x64. I have been using waves plugins all the time, so in the Sonitus Eq, the hi pass filter sounds different. A lot different. If i hi pass in Sonitus at arround 100 Hz i get a thin sound. Its like I am hi passing at 300 Hz in waves eq. I tried it with other eqs also and i get the same result. Is there something Im doing wrong?

It must have a different slope. Try not cutting as high and seeing if that will work. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

yes thats what i did. but when cutting at 40 Hz in Sonitus I get is like cutting at 120 Hz in other Eqs. Isnt that a big difference concerning the real frequency range of instruments?

Each EQ plug in uses a different code to perform its work. One EQ will be different than another EQ, much like Compressers, they do the same thing, but sound different. Sonitus plugs ins are nice, but Waves are much better sounding.

Actually, any two properly-designed filters with the same parameters will result in exactly the same sound. The difference you heard can be attributed to simply different slopes. A HPF with a 6db/octave slope will affect higher frequencies more than a 12db/octave slope with the same knee frequency.

vijays Each EQ plug in uses a different code to perform its work. One EQ will be different than another EQ, much like Compressers, they do the same thing, but sound different. It depends - if you are implementing a specific type of filter (Chebyshev, Butterworth, Bessel, etc.), its slope (and sound) is mathematically defined and different code can only implement the same math slightly differently (or get it wrong). But some plugin versions of analog gear also attempt to model that gear's distortions or sometimes unusual filter response curves. Upsampling may also have an effect on the slope of cutoffs > 10kHz. Also note that for most filter types, the cutoff frequency is the -3dB point, but for some filter types cutoff frequency is not formally defined and different plugins may define where it is differently (even if their mathematical response is identical).
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

1.6 on the slope, seems to work for me in the sonitus plugs. if i want a roll off at 35hz, i'll actually set the freq number to about 20... the 35hz is actually hit at the depth of the reduction you put in for slope. but ultimately, you should be able to roll that slope to ANYWHERE YOUR EARS TELL YOU!!! never mix by sight.
