Sonnox Inflator - Snake Oil?

The guy in this vid does the worlds most ambiguous description of a plug (nearly) ever.

It's a "sounds-good plugin". What more do you need to know?

It does "some low-level enhancement thingie" - you don't want to get too technical with musicians, as they are notoriously unable to comprehend big words.  Some of them could be bass players.

At least he didn't use the word "mojo", not even once.

Well, if I'm not mistaken that's Fab Dupont.  And, if he doesn't know his **** he's certainly fooled many of the biggest names in recording today.  Plus, you can definitely hear the difference in the track (better) with the Inflator than without.  But I have to agree it's a pretty weak demo.  Plus there are other plugs that do what it does...some even better.  Agree with Bit tho...surprised he never said "Mojo":-)

I bought this one last year when they had a fifity percent off bundles sale. Even at the moment it's %40 off at the Sonnox website. It's sort of like a coloring limiter, it was designed by Paul Frindle and was unique at the time of it's release. Now as yoropal says there are other plugs that do the same thing, but do it better. But it is so easy to use and effective that I use it quite often.

There was a post a while ago linking to a video with this same guy "Fab" demoing the Sonnox reverb. Most everyone thought it was a top notch demo.

English please. And keep in mind that I am a drummer through and through.
    Thanks.

I really love this plug..but it does tend to give a certain sound that im not always happy with.   What are the other plugs that do it better?  thanks

The WAVES Aphex Aural Exciter for one.  And you can achieve similar results...plus much more...with Nomad Factory's Magnetic.  UADs precision enhancer also comes to mind.

It's always on my drums buses as the compression side of parallel compression.

Presently, SONNOX INLATOR is 40% off  : Is it a bargain or not ?

Apart the external similar plugs you mentioned, do you think it is a (very) good value in the context of Sonarl? Can we have the same effect as with analog saturation plugs included in Sonar?

What gives confidence (but may be,I'm totally wrong) with the inflator is it is based on the seriousness of the brand, and it seems to be built on algoritms which allows  more tolerance concerning the respect of signal and so, a fewer degradation of dynamics and a better respect of the stereo image (I think about a whole mix) in comparison with "smaller" plugins.
    Can you confirm

( Sausage Fattener seems still quite efficient (with moderate settings ) but for individual tracks)

wait until you try the new console emu ....

unlike my m8 ol pal i don't think the aphex will have the same impact , aphex is more on the medium / high freq register ....

inflator is more linear imho ....

Thanks Zo ( I take this opportunity to congrat you for all your videos demoing various plugs, it's very useful and interesting !)

I suppose you have already upgraded to Sonar X2 ?

but for 90 €, do you think  Inflator is a good opportunity ? I wonder if TB Reelbus doesn't have the same (quality) effect for 15 € ?
