Do you have the quick fix installed for Expanded? Did you download X1d for Expanded and not the one for X1 "non expanded"? Lance

Ben, You have to revert to Build 425... Go to the Cakewalk Backups folder and find the SonarPD executable for build 425 and copy into the Cakewalk Sonar X1 directory...which will overwrite the build 434 executable... Then install X1De Update... Should be fine after that...

No. After installing expanded it creates the folder. So the sequence of events is important. When you do remove softube stuff, it's what is IN the folder to delete. I think what you need to do is rollback to x1c (425), install expanded and th then do the x1d update including the softube It sounds as tho you're installing expanded on top of x1d?

Flawless in that order Thanks Lance I've already done that once in the last few months, that was painful, I am going to have to do a clean install soon anyway. Now I don't know what to do, I know leave it alone and go back to more importent business of writing my business plan. So Capt Cake how about this unistaller, X1d part two. I don't knock Cake any more but this is a bit of a shomozal and I just want to use the patch. Anyone from cake watching some idea's would be nice. Ben

Yeah if you are not really confident in handling it, you are smart to leave it alone. It isn't that much of a hassle for somebody like myself that just really knows their way around a PC and can fix anything they break pretty effortlessly, but I can see how it could be quite a project for the less PC and general computer knowledgeable people. Cakewalk would be smart to set it up to be able to update X1 or X1expanded no matter what version we have installed. That would be my goal if I were Cakewalk. Trouble free simplicity is indeed key whenever possible, no doubt. Lance

Trouble free simplicity is indeed key whenever possible, no doubt. Lance I'm a wizz with computers but we are gettting into some really scary territory even for me, one mistake and I have to start again. First thing I would have to do is back all my C: up an hour's worth of work, then if it does go wrong a whole day putting all the software back onto the computer. Then tweaks that sometimes takes months. One of these day's I will learn to take snapshots. Cake just fix this one for us, we need a proper installer. It is unfair to expect us to do the level of work to install a patch. Yea I know you have been busy but this now needs to be number one priority, I've got better things to do than fluff around with a badly desgined patch. Ok that's it, I won't be anymore rough than that. I will see what I can do this afternoon, still writing business plan and this is more importent. Ben

Ben its really not that hard. Down load the instructions and simply follow them. Heck I did it twice for 64 bit and 32 bit X1. You are making more out it of this than it is.

I am going to finish that, then go for a walk then come back and see if I can work it out. Cheers Oh what about the fact that I have two hotfix files which is which Cheers

BenMMusTech I am doing three things at once including writing a market research proposal for mastering business. Not to be pedantic Ben, but NO ONE does more than one thing at a time of these types of tasks*. You are under the (D)ILLUSION that you are doing three things at once. What you are actually doing is jumping between three things at once. You cannot be typing/writing a market research proposal and using the mouse to navigate folders and read a PDF at the same time. It is IMPOSSIBLE to that even if you have three windows open at the same time. Slow down and really complete one thing at a time. mmmmkay? *Yes, we can walk, talk on the phone and look at a pretty girl, but some of those are automatic tasks.

Oh what about the fact that I have two hotfix files which is which The hot fixes need to be removed. That is done by going to the X1 folder and to the backup folder there in and selecting the correct back up file and drag that into the X1 program folder. Your update file will then work. BTW Bapu is right do one thing at a time.

Hey Ben When I installed the x1d I also followed the pdf file. When you get in backup to delete the backup file, if you dubble click on one of the files it will give you the version number. You know the version number you have to delete. I never had to delete the softube. for some reason it worked for me right away. Just take a deep breath and think logic not music. Music is harder. Yeah Ben, it's convoluted to say the least. What I really don't like about all of this is, there is no single patch anymore like there was in 8.0 and 8.5. If you want to run Expanded, at some point, even after a fresh install, you're going to be dealing with multiple patches. That sucks in my opinion. Yours and John's may vary. I didnt want to deal with all that so I just uninstalled everything and reinstalled X1, then X1c and then expanded, finally X1d. Flawless in that order That's my preferred method. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who goes this route. I had a lot of trouble with X1 trying to do patch after patch after quick fix after patch on top of each other. My opinion of course, yours and John's most likely will vary. Bub.

yeah I just like to keep it clean. A lot of software requires uninstall and reninstall and then updates installed, so really, Cakewalk is very much in the norm with that method. To roll back, etc. is just an alternative extra, somewhat more involved method. That all said, if I was a developer, again, I would want to figure out a way for the patch to search all possibilities and find the solution/go through the motions automatically for the user to get them up to date, pretty much by just running the update/double click and presto. If they make something somewhat complex very simple for users, users tend to really love the product. It is really good marketing, never mind helpful to the users. come on Cake. You are always cutting edge. Simplicity is a big part of cutting edge, so work it out!
