Sound Cards & Dimension Pro

I bought Dimension Pro a few months ago and found myself disappointed with the quality of the sounds, as compared with my Roland XP-80 hard synth sounds. It now occurs to me that the quality (or lack thereof) of my sound card might be working against me. I have a Realek High Definition Audio sound card that came as a stock item in my HP Pavilion PC.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a sound card within the $100-200 range that will maximize the sound quality of the Dimension Pro instruments, as well as do a good job recording vocals through a mic/mixer? Thanks.

M-Audio 2496 audiophile, or the slightly better 192 are just great. I am using the 2496 for over 2 years now and I remember the difference in quality between the stock sound card and M-audio's was night and day.

There are a glut of stereo i/o cards. Firewire would be the best option, and the M-audio, PreSonus and E-mu line all have their supporters. Whichever one you decide upon, the differerence will be astounding, if you have a good monitoring system. If you don't need midi, the M-audio Transit (USB) is cheap, sounds good and comes with all kinds of software goodies for less than a C note.

it depends on your operating system right now what I would suggest because normally i recommend the m-audio stuff for that price range, but they're still behind on vista drivers.
