Sound Forge 9 - not shown in Tools Menu

Hello again Gang,

In Sonar 7 PE my Sony Sound Forge shows up in the Tools menu, which is VERY handy
for editing tracks from within Sonar. - Edit the file in Sound Forge, save it, then Sonar 7
asks you if you want to drop the edited file back into the original track. Nice. VERY nice.

However - Sonar 8 PE running 64-bit in Vista Ultimate is not showing the recently installed
Sound Forge in the Tools menu.

Sound Forge runs just fine on it's own in the Vista 64 environment, but I miss the ability to
"shell" out to it.

I've searched both "Sound Forge" and "sound forge" in the forums and didn't find any threads.

Any ideas?

Thanks to all replying for your time, talent and help.

Peace.

    Thank you both -
    Per Jeanine, I found the following link on Cakewalk's site:
    http://www.cakewalk.com/support/new%20faq/tools_menu.html

    Which looks like a lot of steps.

    Actually - I think that I'll try Scott's utility first - it looks like it makes
    the process a little easier!

    ...'not sure why Sound Forge was automatically added to the Tools menu
    in 7PE, but this should achieve the same result in Sonar 8PE.

    Thank you both for your time.

    Scott - I love your books man. I've peppered my Sonar 7 Power with sticky notes
    and split the binding from opening it so many times...
    (Any chance you offer a "Dimension Pro Power"??!) [grin]

    Peace.

    Hey Mark,

    Thanks very much! Sounds like you got a lot of use out of the book.

    Scott I didnt know you had it on your site. You have so much useful stuff.

    I have several copies of the Sonar Power (and SF Power) books but my last copy was V6. What do you get with the upgrade to 8? Obviously all the new features. Any other teasers?

    Hello Drummaman,

    I have this problem as well running 64bit Sonar 8.02 and 64 bit Vista.

    I tried both ways using Sonar utilities and doing the regedit thing but although Sound Forge now shows up in the Tools menu of Sonar x64 when I try and open a sound file I get an error message "cannot create process"

    Have you managed to get this to work?

    It works fine in the x86 version of Sonar on the same machine - so is it just that this will not work in x64?

    Hey Space Cowboy,

    Yep, there's a lot of great content over on the DigiFreq site. And it's just gonna keep on getting better. It's a good idea to read the newsletter and visit the home page on a regular basis to keep up with all the cool stuff...

    Re: Sonar 8 Power... since you're coming from version 6, you'd get a lot of new content... all the new features and changes from both 7 and 8. If you go to the Power Books section of my site, you can find more info, download bonus chapters and project files, and read excerpts from the book...

    I cannot get this to work either, but got no replies when I requested help. Works in the x86 (32bit version) but not 64 Bit. Vista64.

    Thank you both - Per Jeanine, I found the following link on Cakewalk's site: http://www.cakewalk.com/s...%20faq/tools_menu.html Which looks like a lot of steps.
    Just a bump to let people know that this method worked perfectly for me in Win 7 64 bit and Sonar 8.3.1 64 bit.

    I had the "cannot create process" error also. However the instructions state:
    You can find this (exe path) by right clicking on the Cool Edit shortcut and choosing Properties.
    When I copied the path I included the quotes around the path.

    When I removed the quotes and rebooted it worked perfectly!
    I am using sound forge 10-0a and Sonar 8.5.1 64bit and win7 64.

    Here's something that Bitflipper showed me a few weeks ago.
    Search for regedit.exe then under file press import. Select registry hive files and select a text file with the info below in it. You may need to correct the text below on the programs files line to the exact location of the sound forge.exe file

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\SoundForge]
    "ExePath"="C:\Program Files\Sound Forge\Sound Forge.exe"
    "StatusBarText"="SoundForge"
    "Type"="WaveEditor"
    "MenuText"="Sound Forge"

    A bit of clarification here for the inexperiences:

    "Sound Forge.exe" is not necessarily what you need to place in these lines.  In my case it was "Forge90.exe" so check your file name and don't take the post literally.

    I don't have soundforge so you'll have to check your own file path as stated, but I did manage to add Audition with this text.

    is it just me? or are others having a similar issue? now that i have SoundForge listed in my tools menu, and i select a clip to open it up in SoundForge.  so far so good.  but when i try to edit the clip, SoundForge does the opposite of what i want.  for example, if i want to mute a breath out of a vocal track, the vocal track gets muted and the breath remains.  or if i want to select a portion of the clip and drop the volume 3dB, SoundForge raises the volume.
    i was psyched once i got the program listed in the tools menu, but now wonder if it was worth it.  Sonar 8.52 PE x64, Windows 7
