Sound will not work when Microphone is plugged in.

I have Windows 7 and when I plug in my microphone directly to the computer (USB) the sound on my computer and cakewalk cuts off. This means I cannot hear anything on any track to record vocals over. Any suggestions? I have Cakewalk LE. Thank you.

    What's the brand and model of the mic?

    Also:
    Which LE version?
    Are you plugging in the USB mic before or after LE is running?
    What driver mode are you using?

    They can be quite problematic, because they are also soundcards.
