Soundcard upgrade
Hi everyone. I currently have an Audigy 4 soundcard, and am considering upgrading. I was wondering what would be the effect on my current projects if I did the upgrade, and would I have to modify them at all? Thanks

there shouldn't be any problems. the only potential problem I can think of would be that your current projects should be recorded at 48kHz. most of the prosumer cards should be able to handle that sampling rate as well, but some of them might not. even if they don't it still shouldn't be a big problem because it can easily be converted to 44.1kHz. that's the only thing I can think of that might cause a SLIGHT difference and you might not even notice that.

Well, your quality might go up, but I am sure you can handle that!

Thanks, Beagle, I was hoping it wouldn't be a problem. I can cause enough of my own problems... So I won't have to change the input/output options on each project? If I have to, I will, but hopefully not. Btw, are you a professional sound engineer??? You should be....

well, it depends. if you disable or remove the soundblaster then you shouldn't have to change it, but if you try to use both of them, then yes, you'll have to manually change the output. no, I'm not a professional sound engineer. by day, I'm an electrical engineer - I work on fighter jets!

Robomusic - anything that improves quality is very welcome ! :-) Beagle - interesting! I fly turboprop and piston aircraft (not military though). I'll go for the new sound card then, I think it will be my birthday present......... Thanks

Yeah, it can be time consuming and very expensive, you need to know someone who can take you up sometimes to get some experience. Ultralight/Sport aircraft flying might be an option.

I'll stick with sims, amateur. Although I do enjoy flying my RC helicopters. They can get expensive, too, but that should get better as I learn to minimize ground proximity incidents. I still like to record at 48k with my E-MU sound card. It probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference, but I figure a few more samples can't hurt.

I have heard E-MU is good - I'll look at their products for sure. And I'm looking at all the comments on these forums. I think flying the real thing is probably easier then the RC models - the helicopter ones are incredible, as are the jet fighters! Expensive if you crash either one though! Flight Sim X is another fun option.
