Soundtrack Excerpt: Ephesians Intro (1:46)

This is a short excerpt of the main theme from a 10 minute soundtrack. Nicest theme I've ever come up with.  Ephesians Intro

I think we get our best work when we do it selflessly for others. It's our gift in return.

I was stressed to my breaking point, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and hubby wants to make a tape of himself reading the Bible--Ephesians. He wants me to compose music on the spot while he reads.

I've got nothing left to give. Inside I'm tired and empty. I can't think. I can't talk. I want to scream. But how can I refuse Hubby wanting to read the Bible? It'll do him good to read it. So I sit down dutifully and bungle my way through something for him.

Next, he invites company over and plays his tape for them and asks me to play background music along with it again.

I'm super embarrassed. Who wants to come over and listen to the Bible? Especially boring old Ephesians? I see their faces fall at his announcement, but what can I say? My nerves still shot, embarrassed, I sit down dutifully and bungle through something again for him, trying to remember what I played before.

It's getting better, though. Hmm, I think I'll finish this

So I do, and now this is the main theme from it. I think it's a gift I got in return for trying to give even when I was burned out with nothing to give.

    Hello PeggySue,

This is quite a lush arrangement on the keyboards/synths...packed with huge rolling emotive swells...
    Bravo.
I'm sure your guests went home in a different state than the one they arrived in.   (When my guests leave they too go in a different state but that's because they drink all my beer and drive east into New Hampshire instead of back south into Massachussetts. )
    Such a lovely piece!

    Very nice piece.

Mix wise it would help your pieces a lot if you panned your orchestra away from the middle. Put your high strings to the left and the low to the right. It will add a lot of realism to the work.

    Nicely done.

Hey Peggy. Yes, this is very soothing and beautiful. Would love to know about the arrangement and chord progression, etc.

    All playing is wonderful.

As was suggested, panning would open this up.

When I first started people would say "everything is in mono, where is the stereo pan" etc.

I listened to a lot of music that was like what I wanted to do and spent a lot of time pulling one headphone off to see how things were panned.  It really helped me to understand how to get guitar A not to drown out guitar b.

There are a few runs in this song that are down low and great.

I would check out this song on a nearby thread as a good example to examine the panning aspect:

Very nice. Sounds like an intro to a big performance of some kind, movie or musical, opera... Skillfully played and arranged but still it lacks sound quality, very midi sounding.

Dear Peggy, the only thing I didn't like about this piece is that it ended too soon.  Very soothing and reassuring feel. Nice piano work. Strings/synths are expertly executed, although I agree with rolifer on the panning and placement. I'm waiting to hear the rest of it, so get going girl...........I need more soothing...........Ron

I'm not sure I understood anything much from the background story there but I'm gathering this just came about fairly impromptu.

It sounds very well thought out, excellently played and yes very thematic.

I'd agree about the sound quality and production aspects that have already been mentioned but the main thing is you've captured that wonderful performance.

    Beautiful.

very nice peggysue!  some better panning would help, as has already been mentioned, but this is pretty good stuff, especially for being inspired by an impromptu performance!  nice work!

Well, if it has to be Ephesians, this music would make it easier.  This is the first of your music I've heard, I think!!  It's beautiful, just beautiful!!

Extremely soothing and masterful piano cascades (way beyond in heavenly places) ... and yes, like Ephesians "heavenly places".

(I've always loved that book as it assumes the victory, blessing, and heavenly places in Christ)

Wow – very Twin Peaks… I love it. I thought I was getting a little trippy until I see that Frank (NotNat) mentioned this as well. Some very moody and compelling music. Good for you  – well done and you managed to really set a mood – not everyone can do that. Nice going!

A very relaxing. meditative, flow to this piece. I could've used more of this IMO. Wonderful, orchestral sounds and a beautiful composition. While listening, it certainly inspires some good imagery and I think can be used as a great 'back-ground' enhancement as well. (not to take away from the music itself mind you). Uplifting.

Interesting arrangement and a beautiful composition. The playing is really good aswell.

Very good choice of instruments, but i have to agree with some of the other responses, the mixing could
have been better (panning, eq, effects). If you got that sorted, the sky is the limit for you!

    Keep it up!

    Thanks for the critiques, everyone.

As par for long-winded me, I had written a huge, detailed reply--had answered everybody all the way down to Beagle  before I lost it all.

How about I just thank ya'll all together, and let everyone know that I considered every reply.

And thanks, Janet, for pointing out that Ephesians is not boring! None of the Bible is, for anybody who wants to know God's heart and do it.  But I wrote that part of the story through my guests' eyes. I wish now, though, that I hadn't put it in people's minds that any part of the Bible could be boring.

For the past two weeks I'd sat with a broken ankle propped up on the computer desk, listening to all the music on this forum. Hubby felt so sorry for me, he didn't interfere. What else could I do, anyway?

And I learned a whole lot from ya'll--techniques to spice up my music. And that we can become stagnant--we can quit growing--if day after day we only play, practice, and hear our own music. I did.

And so I can say this ankle injury has turned out to be a good thing for me. Thanks, everyone, for posting your music. I've learned a lot from ya'll.

Edit: Ankles doing well. I'm on my feet again. Back to working.
