Sound/video driver conflict and Sonar x3 and not starting

Hi,

I usually am able to figure stuff like this out myself but finally after 2 weeks i'm forced to find help.
I run X3 producer on my Windows 7 pc. Never really had any problems until i installed a game demo a few weeks ago. The demo worked fine but Sonar didn't start up anymore. It just does nothing when i click it. Not even the start screen.

I removed the demo. Nothing. I realized it updated some video and or audio drivers (nvidia card) so i did a clean install of the nvidea driver. Nothing.
I then completely removed the driver (video and audio) and rebooted in low res and Sonar worked.
Well since then i'm just installing and uninstalling the driver depending on what i use my computer for. Ridiculous of course.
I spent hours and hours looking for a solution and apart from reinstalling Windows i can't find any.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    just wild guess, maybe in Sonar, menubar, edit, preferences....at Audio, Playback and Recording, tick 'share drivers with other programs'.
    Then in Windows, devices (look for the souncard, sorry don't know where it is excactly...I haven't got my Windows in English).....anyways, ensure your soundcard you have for Sonar is the only one active and is set as 'default'...

    Thanks, i will look into that but i think i at least partly already did something similar. More tips are welcome.

    make sure you run the right driver for your audio card in option audio in sonar
     
    or maybe re-install sonar

    Can you give us your exact system specs (inc model number of NVidia card?). Please see my sig.
    When you install the NVidia software make sure you do a clean install and a custom install. Only install the display driver do not install any other components.
     
    In future I would consider looking at a dual boot windows, your DAW windows environment should be kept clean and you should avoid anything unrelated to your musical workflow. The other windows environment you can play Quake, Elite, Pacman etc...

    Hi.

    Gtx 680, intel i7, Windows 7 64 bit, Roland octa capture, 16 gig ram.
    I did the clean driver install without the additional stuff already. Won't work. Neither does removing any other audio driver.

    A dual boot is not the same as a new user? As in 2 seperate users?

    A dual boot is an entirely separate windows installation, if your hard drive is large enough (you can install on other hard drives) and your windows license allows for extra windows installations.

    Please run windows update as well and check the windows event viewer.
    Maybe consider renaming AUD.INI (google for details) to reset Sonar's audio preferences, and running chkdsk on your drive. Have you scanned your drive for viruses and spyware recently?
    If that doesn't work maybe you are going to look towards a reinstallation unless somebody else here can come up with a better idea.

    Oh also please go to "RUN" in Windows and type this in case it's the icon (with speech marks):
    "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer\SONARPDR.exe"
