Sous Les Etoiles

Hi,
I know I've been away from here for times.
Life goes its own way.
Here is the most recent song I wrote.
Lyrics are typed in the description.
Thank you for taking time to listen.
All the best.

Nice performance Olivier! Sounds like you did it all in one take, which I'm pretty sure I couldn't do anymore, lol.

    Welcome back Olivier.
Please excuse my ignorance but my French is very rusty so I will stick with the sonic qualities of the track. The guitar and vocal have been captured really nice and clean and like Dan says does sound as though you did it in one take, either that or you have some mean comping skills

    Thank you Dan,
    Your ears didn't fool you.
I did it in one take( not the first one though).
One mic for the voice one for the guitar ,got quite lucky I did not hear too much phase issues so no alignment plug-in ,tried to clean up the voice with the help of RX ,a little bit of verb and that's all.
Without being arrogant,I like this song ,so I just wanted to translate it how I hear and feel it and despite the imperfections of the playing,I was ok with what I heard,so I decided to share it here.
Thanks again for your kind comment.
    All the best.

    Hi Adrian,
    Thanks for your comment.
As I mentionned above It has been done in one take,so no mean comping skills.one thing helped me though, it is a video or a text by Fab Dupont who was saying to be careful not to sing too close to the mic and actually, I didn't need to eq that much ,and also I didn't hear phase issues between the guitar mic and the vocal mic.
    All the best.

    Olivier,

Fantastic track, enjoyed it very much.

Je n'ai jamais entendu une chanson de style comté en français avant. Cela se traduit très bien et votre voix est bien adaptée à ce type de musique. Un énorme pouls vers le haut.

    Hello Mark.
Thanks a lot for your comment,
    Glad you liked the tune.
French song is a perticular genre I admit, though I had something from Johnny Cash when I wrote it...even if it is quite hidden in the result.
    All the best.

    Hello Mikael,
    Thank you for your comment.
    Glad you like the voice,
I realized that when I was listening to a song,it was the vocal part that gave the main over all feeling,so on this one I tried to sing ,let's say, carefully :not to close to the mic, avoid overpowering the high tones and avoid having the low ones too dark.
Without being a beginner,I realize that a good singing is something which demands time and work, because If the technical side is not mastered it is difficult to translate emotions.
I hear some singers who are so good that they put the song exactly the way they want it,but when I listen to how they do it,I often hear that it is because they master so well the technical aspect that they are able to go beyond it and use it to serve their purpose.
    Thanks again .

Yes, very nice performance. I liked what you said about needing to master the technical side of singing in order to express the emotional side. So true.

    Hi Bjorn,
Thanks a lot for your post and taking time to listen and....to read.
Singing is often looked as natural but if you have heard people in a karaoke,is it?
Maybe this is not the place to talk about this but my main issues are if a" high" tone is arriving I tend to tense my neck and my tongue blocks the air so result is a kind of off tune thin screaming and if a " low" tone is showing then my neck falls down with the same kind of result ,no air and off tune weak tone.
    Just my experiences.
    All the best.
    Olivier.

French Johnny?  Cool...    It sounds like a simple, honest performance to me.  And recorded well.

    Hello Steve,
    Thank you .
    Glad you mentionned Johnny.
I actually had something of Johnny Cash when I started writing the song, then it came towards something more personnal .
    All the best.

Sometimes simplicity is the best approach and I think that is the case for this song.  Hard to beat just the guitar and vocal to capture the essence of the song - especially when it's recorded this well.
