this spammer is a persistent bugger....  The mods have been cleaning his crap up but he has a lot of free time on his hands apparently.

The mods need to do that IP blocking thing on this POC.

If only 3 people flagged it - it would magically go away without waiting for us to do it.  Not to say we won't do it - but if it really drives you nuts flag it.  If two more people feel the same it will disappear forever without waiting for our intervention.

And now we have four threads on spam, main thread here:
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Spam-for-heavens-sake-m3000531.aspx

Can these threads be merged please? Little housekeeping... thanks....

And Willy are you aware you can now upgrade the forums software to version 5?

Thanks..

Quick question... 3 people flagging per message? I have actually gotten a pop-up when trying to flag something telling me "This post has already been reported to the moderators" It never "went away."

This guy posts every 3 minutes... 3 people flagging each of his messages is a full-time gig (for 3 people).

Yes we are and to be blunt, we simply don't care yet. ASP Playground is notorious for buggy releases for major updates. And personally I'm still frustrated that the new version doesn't address any scalability issues or the actual problems that are forum suffers from.

Anyway once v5 is stabilized we'll take a closer look.

This is news to me. I'd assumed that once it was flagged there'd be no point in flagging it again.Knowing that all it takes it a quorum of 3 to automagically remove spam, well then I'd say problem solved.

Rather than specific IP address, do you guys ever block by subnet?

Like whole counties... like the UK :)
I regularly block off China on my servers assuming China is not a targeted territory (sorry China! but then they are used to it). Joking aside (although I do block off china) that's what you generally need to do (maybe a whole country may be a bit too drastic for Cakewalk).

Yeah, I think a whole country is extreme, but as a forum admin I've seen spammers that change IP addresses with every spam but the addresses are all within a subnet, so I would just block the subnet. In theory that may block a few valid users, but the payoff was that it sometimes kept spammers from polluting and ruining the forum for current members, and it didn't block every single address in the originating IP block. For me and the forum the benefits outweighed the losses.

And then there's the spammers that spoof IP addresses and switch subnets and IP blocks. That's tons of fun.

Surely there's an inherent problem here - CW will never get "3 flags" because as soon as one is logged, you get the message Mettelus describes on post #34.

How about a simple filter like any post containing "+91" and "baba" ???

Subject or body... I think that might get almost all of them. Boolean logic.

Edit: I googled "site:forum.cakewalk.com "+91" AND "baba"" and got 346 hits, the first two pages were all his. (Well, actually this post is in there too )

When you see the post Flagged go to the bottom of the post and you'll see the check box now append a (1) or however many times it's been flagged. I'm just going around adding a 2nd spam flag to many of the posts.

Ugh... It is wiser to fight with the simplest method that is effective. Historically, when man has been pitted against machine, man has not performed all that well. I am not convinced that his forum account creation is even done by hand.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.
