Spare Acoustic
Hey Guys, I've been getting requests to bring an acoustic guitar camping etc. There's no way I'm bringing my Martin D-35. I want to pick up something pretty decent used for around $300. Any suggestions? Thanks. Rocky

I've had the back packer - Not really much to like about it. But I think the closest you can get is a used Sigma. what I like is that it's the same basic Martin layout and engineering - just not quite as nice select of woods. I've found the build quality to be pretty decent on them - plus you can always tweak them to taste.

There's always the Washburn Rover too. I'm thinking in terms of small travel acoustic, not a full-size. If full size, an Applause?

I picked up a used Taylor GS Mini with padded case for around $350. ...like it a lot...very handy.

Ditto on the GS mini, though I seem to go for the LTD ones. I also, tried out an Epiphone EL-00 Pro ($299 street or less) and want it, though I have to say I am not sure why! It's just a fun/cool/sweet little (full scale tho)and nice sounding guitar. Michael

Alvarez comes to mind. Not too expensive and good action. I have one that I have had for over twenty years.
Ibanez makes some good ones too. But play a few to find the better ones. Some are great. Others you can leave alone.

About 15 years ago I got a gig to play at a weekly campfire, where I also did Sunday brunch (7years and my fave all time gig! Just play-no talk-no singing-no list! play whatever I felt like! ). I couldn't bring myself to take any of my good guitars (Taylor 514, Galloup LG1, '71 D28, Fender Springhill SC35 maple jumbo- all gone unfortunately) , so I bought a $75 beater Yamaha that I loved! It was rugged, loud, and impervious to climate and the warm front-cold back of "campfire world". I wish I had one now! It was great for the beach, backyard at night, or any kind of outdoor fun/gig stuff.
