Speaker monitors for cakewalk/sonar recording purposes?

I have Logitech x230 speakers for my computer. They come with a subwoofer. They sound fine to me but i'm not sure if they are totally ideal for recording music. Can anyone recommend a set of monitors as an upgrade? I'm looking to spend at the most 150$. Is it necessary to upgrade the speakers? I do strictly hip hop over instrumentals (no actual instruments) and I want as good of quality all around that I can get. Should I get a new subwoofer to go with the new monitors if I decide to upgrade?

With that budget you might be better off getting decent headphones for example ATH-M50
