Speaking of Dwight D. Eisenhower
My mother was pregnant with my second-oldest brother during the presidential campaign between Eisenhower and Adlai Stephenson in 1952. The family was living at my grandparent's house at that time while my father was in Korea during the war. My grandfather was a staunch republican and my grandmother was a devout democrat. They would argue endlessly about politics, so my mother said, and constantly complain about the other cancelling out their vote. So they each agreed to not vote, and then tried to sneak out to vote. My mother, being amused by all this, named my second-oldest brother Stephen Dwight.

My dad was a 'vote for the man, not the party'. He was for Kennedy and then later Goldwater.

Cool story! In the mid-70s, I got to play a round of golf in the foursome behind Eisenhower up in Minocqua, WI. He still had secret service protection. I don't know about in front of his group. but there were 4 agents in MiB suits walking in a line down the fairway the hole behind him, to prevent us getting too close. His limo was pulling out of the club when we came off the 18th. Never even got to lay eyes on him. He may have been the Republican candidate, but he was the one who warned us to beware of the military-industrial complex. Sadly, he was SO right.

"My dad was a 'vote for the man, not the party'. He was for Kennedy and then later Goldwater" That was a hell of a flip! Or just a premonition of things to come with LBJ? T

My mom and dad voted for Franklin Delano Roosevelt for their whole lives. 40 years after he died they were still finding a way to say they were voting for him.

My mother worshiped the ground FDR walked on. She would look over her readers at my father and say “Tommy, Your father is not a communist, he is an in-d-pen-dant”. I regestered as a Democrat, I was still living at home... My mom wasn’t someone you wanted to tangle with! T

I think my mom continued with the Eisenhower theme when my brother Mike was born. Steve's and Mike's middle names are Dwight and David.
