Specify Number of Loop Repetitions

Before I post in New Features (Ideas/Requests), I wanted to be sure I understood you cannot currently do what I'm asking.

I'm familiar with Sonar's looping capability within the Track View. And I certainly understand Copy | Paste (or Paste Special) to multiply an audio clip. What I'm wondering is, without using a plugin VST/DXi, is it possible to specify the NUMBER of repetitions of a loop segment? Select the loop range, press play, and the loop plays "x" number of times before moving on through the end of the song. Then, to add a complex function, to identify more than one loop segment, and even track-specific or embedded looping.

The purpose of this is two-fold: first and most important, as a creation assistant when developing songs, and second, as a live performance method (similar to using multiple loop stompboxes).

Ideas?

Thanks.

Way back in Cakewalk for DOS, looping did work that way for a time. But SONAR uses a strictly sequential timeline. If you want a part to repeat for some number of iterations and then continue, you have to add the repetitions.

It does not do this, and the reason I know for sure is I proposed a new type of marker that would allow for repeating a section for as long as you didn't specify going to another section, which could also be made to repeat. Noel said it would not be possible to implement at the present time without a slight gap in the audio during transitions from one section to another. However, what you're asking for is less complicated as it doesn't involve jumping around among multiple sections of the song, so it might be doable...go for it.

Thanks for the replies brundlefly and Anderton. brundlefly, I remember that feature in DOS, been using since 2.0. Was hoping there was some lost trick or cheat! Anderton, I'll tell 'em you said it was OK! :)

For now, I think I can write a CAL script to quickly add and delete a specified number of times to copy/paste or delete a clip. Might save a little time.
