Speed comping....
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing issues with the "speed comping" workflow in X3c. I had used the "workflow" in X3a and b and it worked fine.. now in X3c when I have the clips all "cut" into sections using the isolate tool (or whatever it is called)... when I hit "shift Space" to place the selected clip... my audio engine "crashes." It did NOT do that in X3b. Just wondering if this is something else that might be "not working" in the new update. Thanks

Mine doesn't crash, but sometimes, shift+space doesn't start playback. This is usually when I haven't actually split any clips yet. So... maybe something buggy in there? Not sure... see if you can get something repeatable.

So far since I've tried using it in X3c it crashes every time. No other software in my DAW has changed besides the X3 update.
Hmmmmm..

It's not crashing for me. gswitz sometimes, shift+space doesn't start playback. This is usually when I haven't actually split any clips yet.
Also, if no clip is selected, it won't start, but I imagine this would be considered a feature, not a bug.

Yeah... seems ominous for sure. Call to Cake Support? http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/contact/default.aspx I recognize it's a pain, but they might be able to help. It is NOT crashing for me and I do use the speed comping stuff. Thanks @rontarrant, I knew there must be a reason. ;-)

I suggest you update your sound drivers and firmware. Also rename AUD.INI, restart Sonar (so you will get a fresh file) and then throw in fresh settings in the Preferences. See if that helps... Oh and do this... http://forum.cakewalk.com...px?m=2928792&fp=15

Just so you know, I wouldn't use CakeAlexS's suggestion of installing a third party tool to inspect my drivers. Windows automatically does checking at a certain level. You can go to the manufacturer for your hardware and check the drivers in most cases. At least for the big shops like Dell and HP. They'll have all the latest drivers for your machine's hardware that have been tested by them for your machine. Due respect, @CakeAlexS.

I use speed comping with X3c have not had this problem. It is worth checking out with tech support, though. X3c did seem to introduce a few bugs so I would not be surprised if some tweak to speed comping is causing problems that other have not yet experienced.

Qswitz, with all due respect you haven't tested this software I have, every time I have used this the latest version has come down (I have checked). Please leave your preconceptions behind. This is great software and they are totally up to date, you just need to be careful how you install it (hence I point people to my post). Sure nothing beats checking hardware manufacturers websites but people often forget to update certain drives such as FireWire for instance. This app solves the issue nicely. It is a good all rounder. Its helped me out occasionally when I thought all drivers were up to date when they were not. I spend a lot of my time in these forums and I try to help. I dont give out stupid advice and telling people not to do something you clearly haven't tried yourself is not helpful. As you seem to question my credentials I have a degree in IT and a have serviced PCs since the 90s, I am also a .Net software developer, manage servers all over the world, and have done QA jobs in the past, not that it really matters. Oh and I cut my teeth on a ZX80,BBC micro, Apple II and Unix based mainframes. I have worked for silicon valley based companies, Air studios and RAK studios. I've even worked for Samsung building PCs. I knew Mickie Most and George Martin, I have worked on many world wide top 10 hits but you would have never heard of me. End of banging my own drum. And please let's not start exchanging blows about who is the coolest or who knows best, I have laid my cards on the table, I prefer to live in the spirit of humour, cooperation and helpfulness, rather than fear and distrust. I will simply bomb out of this thread and that won't be helpful for the OP.

To add windows update is generally useless at checking for up to date drivers but always worth running for other software updates. There is a reason for this and that is that Microsoft has a very slow reviewing process when it comes to third party software and often ends up being 3 to 6 months behind. Consequently hardware manufacturers only submit updates to microsoft occasionally and some not at all.

I did not intend to imply anything negative, Alex.
What I shared with the op was in the cooperative spirit you described.

I really dont see why my drivers should need to be updated? But I will check that out later today.. Is there a way in X3 to find out the "cause" of a problem or an error log/reporting tool of some sort? I will be able to "test" more later tongiht once I get into studio and get back to work... Thanks

I had previously disabled the 64 bit engine because of the other documented issues (quad curve eq/ CE). PREVIOUSLY I had always used the 64 bit engine. I'll try enabling it to see if that fixes the problem. I did update the drivers/software for my interface (Saffire Pro 40 but it is still crashing on the speed comping. ) CakeAlexS >I really dont see why my drivers should need to be updated? So you are on mix control 3.3... Anyway not just your audio drivers please check my first post. Also please run windows update there were some major fixes recently. Finally please could you give some information in your footer like mine, I didn't know you had a saffire for instance and I don't know your os. As we see different behaviour for others and it is an engine crash, you need to explore these possibilities first. Thank you. Good idea about enabling 64 bit. Thanks
