Speeding up Behaviour in Platinum (ver Gl)
Hi, Sometimes, in certain projects, with midi (bass, drums and sometimes keyboards) plus audio, when I open one up and press play (space bar or with mouse) the project starts up faster than the indicated tempo and at 2 semitones (one note) above the actual key (eg : D instead of C). Both for midi AND audio. I've also had this happen to an imported mp3 used as a template for the actual tracks. This usually happens after the PC has been on for some time - 5 or 6 hours and mainly been idle. Sometimes a re-boot of W10 (or in the past W7) would cure the problem, but sometimes a cold boot is necessary. I am upto date with audio, video etc drivers and running Splat Gloucester (BTW its also happened in X3 in the past). I can't really see this as being a driver issue. Has anyone come across this before, or does anyone have an idea why its happening ? Its not systematic, so would be difficult to reproduce for a bug report (if it really is). I accept it may be system specific (so any guesses what might cause this ? ), but..... I'm also wondering if anything triggered in Sonar, when it opens up, could cause such behavior. Whilst its a PITA, I can live with it, but would like to know if its user-error or other. Yours frustratedly, Jerry

Hi. Sorry if this is obvious. Could it be a sample rate issue? Do you have "share audio drivers with other programs" enabled, under preference (P), Audio, Playback and Recording? If so, try to uncheck it. Best of luck.

What is your clock set to in SONAR - audio? I wonder if it's a hardware issue with your Focusrite, if so? Are you prone to voltage fluctuations, brownouts, etc? When you say your system is idle does the Focusrite stay powered up? I've never seen anything like this myself in either SPlat or X3 - sure seems like a clock issue (barring anything obvious like tempo changes in your project, etc).

Hmm, I'll try that for a while, yes the drivers are shared. CHeers, Jerry

OK, I've modified the clock settings in Preferences - could be that ..... so that Sonar uses now the Focusrite wordclock. No power fluctuations/Brownouts that I am aware of (been at home most of the week). Yes, the Focusrite is always powered up. Nice catch (if its indeed the clock settings), I'll let you know. Cheers, Jerry

Hi Jerry - I made an assumption you were already syncing to audio, and hence the questions about your focusrite. Definitely better to sync to audio if you don't have another clock source, (MTC, etc) IMO. Best of luck.

Doktor Avalanche I used to get your issue from time to time... According to: http://uk.focusrite.com/downloads?product=Liquid+Saffire+56 .. the latest version of Mix Control is 3.5. I suggest you check with Focusrite, I don't actually believe that to be the case.
Here is a link to Saffire Mix Control 3.6: http://uk.focusrite.com/downloads?product=Saffire+PRO+40 This is a much better driver... For best results I find it best to uninstall it, reboot, clear all settings, restore factory defaults, configure mix control, save to the hardware, and do a backup. Another thing, do not use the legacy firewire driver in windows from 3.x onwards. Another thing I would try is this in case of some weird plugin issue: https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013315/SONAR-X3-Full-VST-Rescan-Recommended-for-Upgraders BTW with my Saffire Pro I use audio as the clock source. I think this is recommended unless you have another audio interface hooking in. Thanks...
Thanks Alex, i am aware of most of what you have written and its reassuring to note you have experienced this in the past. I am not on legacy drivers. 3.5 mix control is for Mac systems, at least for the LS56 ! FYI, at the moment Mix-Control 3.6 is still in beta for the LS56. They (Focusrite) have assured me that it will eventually be rolled out to the LS56........ at some point. I may well be tempted to try it out via their beta site. Or just wait. I am now using audio (LS56) as the clock source so we'll see what happens over a period of time. Thanks for your advise, Jerry

AFAIA as per their website : http://beta.focusrite.com/releases/saffire_mix_control/ http://uk.focusrite.com/firewire-audio-interfaces/liquid-saffire-56/downloads Extract from a mail I received from Focusrite dated 22/06/2015, after the release date of you referenced download(s) : Hi Jerry, Thanks for your email. Currently we are still testing Mix Control 3.6 with other Saffires with the intention of fully releasing 3.6 for other Saffires very soon. You should be able to use 3.6 with your LS56, however please note that there may be some issues that we're not aware of. If this is the case, you can revert to Mix Control 3.4/3.5, although we'd ask that you do report the issue to us. I hope the above helps. Please do let me know if I can be of any more assistance. Best regards Etc. My case rests m'lud That being said, in for a penny, in for a pound, here we go ! Cheers, Jerry.
