Spirit (electronica) Remixed and remastered

Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Back after a quite lengthy break.  Manic depression can be a real downer sometimes.

This track is called Spirit. It's meant to be an uplifting piece, or maybe not depending how it grabs you.  Hope you dig it.

Updated 16 march. I think i've just about got the perfect balance now between the low end and keeping it sounding crisp.  Hopefully anyway. :-)

Welcome back, Blipp. You have been sorely missed.

Now, this piece has both an uplifting and melancholy flavor at the same time. Not a lot on the low end, but interesting percussion for sure.

Not sure about how I like the introduction of that low synth at 1:25? I know you needed to do something like that there, maybe it's just that part, and the tone of the synth, but it didn't seem to fit as well as it could have to me. Good job overall.

Thanks James. Nice to be back.

      Glad you enjoyed it.

Good call on the lack of low end. I uploaded the wrong version earlier, so i've re-uploaded the later version with more bass.  I must have uploaded about twenty different versions over the last few days and got mixed up.

    Cheers.

    Cheers Robbie.

Yep i definitely needed a bass synth at that point and i've lost count of how many i tried out.  Finally settled on this one as i like deep bass and it added some body to it.

It's not unusual in this type of electronica to have a bass like this, but i can understand it sounding strange to someone who does'nt normally listen to it.

Interesting, Blipp. An uplifting tone, yet the 6/8 lends an inherent darkness/melancholy to it. It's a blend I particularly like.
It's electronic, but has a certain renaissance feel to it.

Nice mix - lots going on but not muddled in any way. Everything works with everything. I like the fact there isn't a whole load of low end. I'm a fan of not having too much low-end in electronica - otherwize we'd be making dance music or happy hardcore or somethin. There's a fine line IMO. Electronica has to 'float'.

    You have a singing voice??

It has been a while Blipp.  I'm glad to see that you're back.  After all, you are the one who got me listening to this electronica stuff and liking it.  I actually missed hearing your stuff and I sure enjoyed this one.    It has your usual creativity in weaving twists and turns, and blending sound layers in a way that always keeps one's interest.

Just had a massive breakthrough with my mastering technique and i think i've finally cracked it after hundreds of hours of frustration. I'm really excited about it.

I'm getting detail and clarity i've never got before. To my ears anyway.  Maybe i'm deluding myself, but hope not.

I've just uploaded a new version (18th), so any comments on the mix and mastering would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.
