Spitfire Albion/Kontakt Dynamics Problem in Sonar X1
Hi all, I know this isn't directly related to Sonar X1, so forgive me if I'm posting this in this wrong place. I've received no help over in the Kontakt forums with this issue and was hoping there might be a genius here who could lend some insight. I'm not sure if it has something to do with Sonar, Kontakt, or Albion, but I figured I'd try asking here first. First of all, I'm using Sonar X1 Producer 64-bit (w/all updates) with Spitfire Albion and Kontakt 5. The problem arises when I load Kontakt and an Albion patch, then record a few notes, then stop the recording, the Dynamics slider on all of the Albion patch interfaces zeroes out. If I adjust it back to any level, hit play and then stop, the Dynamics slider zeroes out as soon as I hit spacebar or "Stop" in Sonar. So I'm constantly having to re-adjust the dynamics in all of my Albion patches after every stoppage. It's very frustrating and makes Albion pretty much unusable and a $500 wash. I don't have any other libraries in Kontakt, so I can't use them to compare the issue. Am I overlooking something simple? Could it be an issue with Sonar/Kontakt compatibility? I really appreciate any thoughts.

It certainly sounds like the sliders are being told to zero on stop. I don't have your answers but if you re-post this in the software forum you may get some response. As a Kontakt user, I know how hard it is to locate the problem. Is it the DAW, the library or Kontakt. I know there's a setting in Sonar that will cause effects to be abruptly stopped when you pause or stop playback. I think it's "play effect tails on stop" or something like that. Good luck, NI support really sucks but the Cakewalk staff are pretty good at helping.

I have been using Albion without any issues. Do you have the latest kontakt version 5.2? Perhaps you have a setting in K5 that resets all data. I usually ride a fader with midi volume (CC 7) when working with orchestral music and plug-ins like Albion, so perhaps I am by passing the issue you are having. Tomorrow or the day after I will try to recreate your issue and see if i can figure something out. I'm not working for a couple of days. Albion has worked well for me and a couple other people i know so, I don't think your $500 is wasted. it should be fine...

Thanks for the replies. I've received no help over at NI or on their forums. I don't have 5.2, so I'll remedy that shortly. I'll continue to tinker with Kontakt and see if I can figure out what the issue is.

Yes, try dloading the newest free version of Kontakt. (V5.2) before you do anything else. Make sure you are loading the 64 bit version of K5 (that really should not cause the problem you are having, but you never know). I've tried to find a way to recreate your problem, but I can not. I can not find any setting in Kontakt that resets dynamics to zero. Things i would do to trouble shoot this: 1) load another library patch into Kontakt (anything but Albion) and see if the problem still happens. you might want to find some free patches to do this with. Cinesamples has some. they are another great library company you should check out. Go to http://cinesamples.com/retail/ and scroll to the bottom. 2) make sure you have no other tracks in Sonar accidentally assigned to Kontakt. you might want to open a new project and only have 1 track...just to check it out. Sometimes tracks get accidentally mis-assigned when you delete out a soft synth and will interfere with the track you want to record on. 3) perhaps your dynamics are set to work with the mod wheel on the patches you are loading from albion, which would set everything back to zero and is waiting for the mod wheel. In that case.. hit record and move your mod wheel while you have notes playback. See if that effects the dynamics. In any case, Albion is a great library you should have a blast with. Good luck. PM me if you get stuck. we can do this on the phone if you have real trouble.

The fix should be pretty simple. Follow these steps and it should stop the volume from resetting: - Click the wrench symbol at the top left hand of the patch/instrument in the Kontakt rack. - Once the instrument edit parameters are revealed click the "Instrument Options" tab. - Once the "Instrument Options" dialog box pops up click the "Controllers" tab on the left hand side. - There should be an option that says "Accept standard controllers for Volume and Pan". Uncheck that box and that should solve the problem. You will have to do this for each patch/instrument as needed, as it is not a universal setting that will apply to all instruments in Kontakt.

Bladetragic's solution is logical and worth trying, but my "Accept standard controllers for Volume and Pan" is checked and works fine.

☄ Helpful
"Zero controllers when play stops" setting under Sonar's preferences/project/midi - uncheck it & see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for that, it works. I've been trying to slove this problem all week! Unchecking the 'Accept standard controllers for Volume & Pan' normally works but not in 'Spitfire Albion' for some reason. Thanks again ducatibruce2

No worries - it would be a good idea to read about the setting in the reference manual, there are ways it will get turned back on automagically (at the least convenient time probably). Also, as it's a per project setting you'll need to modify your default template file if you want it as the default for new projects.

Thanks ducatibruce2! I had a feeling it was just some setting that I wasn't used to toggling. Everything's running smoothly now. Thanks everyone for the great support here.
