Split behaviour in track view

I'm probably just missing something but how can I get the split behavior the same as it was in 8.5.3 ? If feels like now I have to click above the center of the audio file to pick it and then click under the horizontal center to actually split it.  In other words what basically used to be 1 click is now 2 (??).

I may have it backwards as I am not at my DAW. All help appreciated !

One of my prime issues with X1...

A "live" split isn't what I prefer, so the extra click (top/bottom of click is forced on me to execute my splits....

Where's my ballet dancing gone to? ;-)
