Splitting midi notes

Ok I've looked but can't seem to find this info.
I need to take a hi-hat part that has 2 notes in it...An open hat...and a closed hat and separate them into 2 separate midi tracks so I can have one track with just the open hat and one track with just the closed hat on them. (It's a long story) I went into the notes view and tried to highlite the notes I want to copy but I can't seem to get them to copy. I get the blue box as I drag the pointer but as soon as I let go to hit copy...they blue box disappears so there is nothing to copy... I know this is a simple midi task...Can someone be nice and specific and teach me (and others) this.
***X2 bty, but this should work across the board
***if you have a reference page in the cakewalk documentation/help section...that would be handy...
Thanks

Clicking the respective piano key on the left of the PRV selects all the notes on that key, at least it used to.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Thanks a bunch..That worked. It's weird...when you click on the note nothing actually happens like highlites or anything...but after I clicked on the corresponding note then went to edit>copy...I just pasted that into the new track and bam...just the open hat showed up...Great helpful tip
    Thanks
