Spoken Word Performance Piece

https://soundcloud.com/jeraldhughes/houston-1969 This is an original work created from a variety of live recorded sounds. It is constructed from one spoken sentence, processed; some foley sounds, and piano. Note: This is not a happy piece. It was tracked and processed entirely in Sound Forge 5.

this is a tough piece of art. not a happy piece, indeed. it is hard to say anything about this...impressive and well done, this is what first comes to my mind. maybe I will find something more to say later.

Thanks for listening, speedtom. This piece was performed in public a while back to a boisterous student audience. They were in stunned silence at the end, then very appreciative afterwards.

Either I don't know how to read the SoundCloud stats right, or almost no one is clicking through to listen, so I really appreciate your taking the time, and the willingness to give it a shot despite the very dark mood of the piece.

A dark subject, to say the least.

There's a special place in hell for people that do such things.

Shine the light into the darkness and expose their deeds.

I understand the students reaction - mine was the same! I mean - we only have one sentence, so we don't know what the father did to his daughter - but no, we DO know. at first, when the sentence builds up, slowly, compaigned by noise sounding like hits from a belt, it really makes you shiver. then, the sentence disappears, again slowly, with the sad piano to it, and it feels like the woman is vanishing away. her personality, her love for life is vanishing away, killed by what the father did to her. this is a fascinating concept on a dark subject. my highest respect for this!

Guitarhacker: Thanks for listening! I completely agree with your sentiments.

Speedtom: Very gratifying to hear that kind of praise, I really appreciate it. I'm very interested in the idea that music and musical content can address far more than the things we normally see in music. Your response assures me that this one does hit the emotional target I and the performer set for it.
