Squash last delay? Lots of good suggestions here.

How do kill the last repeat of a delay on a lead line?  I like the delay throughout the lead but I need it to cut off completely on the last note.  I don't want the last delay-repeat to step on the beginning following section.

Have the delay FX on a bus and use a bus envelope to ramp down the volume just where you want it to disappear.

Or, if it's on the track as an insert, see if the wet control of the delay effect is automatable.

Assuming the delay is decaying enough, you could also put a noise gate after the delay and set the level to cut out as the effect dissipates.

If the Delay setting will not change through out the whole song than a gate is the easier way to go.

I personally use Automation because it gives me more control. I use short and long repeats through out a project.
If you use a gate your limited to one cut off time unless you automate the gate.

I need to do this all the time. I automate MixL and MixR on the Sonitus Delay.

Those are the exact same parameters I use.

Doesn't it annoy you to have to create (and adjust) two identical curves for what is essentially one effect? Or did you find any way around this?

I agree with you. When I used to try to do this in real time it was a night mare because only one side moves (L or R).
the way ive found to get around it is..
 Automation lanes.
- Drag select to create 2 nodes.
- lasso/select the last 2 nodes (L+R channel) and sweep drag them down at the same time.
More often than not with delay im looking to create Linear fades (not to be confused with Minimum phase EQ )
So no curves needed (at least in my situation).

Haven't seen you in a few weeks. Nice to see you back

I make old school:
I always render delay and reverb (100% wet signal) to an audiotrack, instead of an online- or send-effect.
So I can manipulate the whole signal with further effects (flanger, phaser, reverse) at every point differently and cut it, where I don't want to hear the delay.

We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...

4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...

If you put the sontius delay in an fx chain you could put the mixL and mixR controls on one rotary and automate that

I just Link the Mix controls, and shut them down in real time.

If you don't want to do this in real time, in addition to Chuck's tip you can use the Tempo Delay if you want to adjust only one curve. But a lot of times I want the MixL and MixR curves to be different, so the Sonitus is good for that.

Sorry for not getting back earlier - thanks for the tips. I guess a really basic fx chain with L/R mix on one control makes most sense. No idea why I didn't think of that earlier. Almost as easy as inserting H-Delay :)
