Staff View weird after x1d update
Hello, I didn't install any updates on Sonar because it was ok for me. So this week, I decided to update. Installed all of them. Then, I was very surprised that the Staff View got very weird. It was not the best staff before, but it was readable and I got used to its problems. But now, the stems are all wrong and there are very strange things in the notation. Anyway to revert it back? Thanks

Could you post a picture of what you are talking about. I looked at mine and it looks find if find is a proper way to describe Staff View.

hey mkibble, sorry to hear ya frustration dude, you might be able to do a system restore to get you back to where you were,it works, ive done it.i acually did all the updates except d and run on x1c great,so to answer your question yes,do a system restore.but you may benifit from the updates,so heres what you do,do one system restore before you installed update d(so its just x1c now)open up the piano roll and see if your stems are where they were good before,if not, back up another and try again.**BUT-before you do anything, just keep in mind,it might not be an update that made the staff look a little strange,it could be a setting that was rest somehow when you installed the updates.when you install the updates, sometimes it resets or changes certain settings,so check your settings before restoring anything.good luck and post back what you got.

What about using a roll back via X1's backup.

Before you do anything crazy, can i suggest the simple things 1st...like under view, what are your settings? Having "Trim durations" checked and not checking "Fill Durations" seem to make things look better for me. Play with the + and - magnification and see what that does. If notes overlap that tends to cause crazy notation issues, the stems up and down issue is usually tied to that cause sonar thinks there are multiple parts in the staff.

I've got X1c. and have X1d Pro Expanded downloaded, but not yet installed. Please tell me that Staff View hasn't regressed even more. I'll be watching this thread closely.

Please tell me that Staff View hasn't regressed even more. Ths staff view hasn't changed much since 1990. You have some other kind of problem. Check your display resolution. Also, is it possible you are using a Percussion or Bass clef track format? does this happen on more than one of your projects?

Can I assume that the musical notation is now a load of weird symbols???? Did you update as administrator?

There have been some who have been complaining about selecting note resolution and other editing problems, but i can't say i have encountered anything. Mind you I really wish staff and notation was not so clunky, but i'm not seeing much difference or having any issues. Basically, when i'm composing I create three dummy tracks that I use in staff view that creates a lead sheet. The top staff is my melody and includes Chords and sometimes lyrics. The middle is for harmony and the bottom is my bass. None of these tracks effect the song other than used as a visual aid, so I can afford to quantize start and lengths. I usually create them by coping and pasting other tracks. I edit them in piano roll as i would never attempt to do much work in staff view. So what i'm trying to say, i have very little trouble creating a lead sheet with chords, melody and lyrics , but i'm not trying to be a power notation user. So my workflow and habits might not be a good indication as to how staff view in X1 is working or not working.... (what a long winded answer that basically says "I'm not sure")

so can we assume that this is an isolated situation?
