Staff view Clarification...

Hi all,

Just downloaded the X1 demo - I really want to like it - it looks slick but unfortunately I can't work with the new notation system! It's driving me nuts. The new shortcuts make it really, really slow to notate compared to what I was used to with previous versions of Sonar. Since I write orchestral music consisting of a lot of tracks, this is really going to add a lot of time to my workflow...

I really liked it how in previous versions you could just hit the numberpad with one hand to adjust durations, and input the notes. Even the good ol' D for draw is gone too which is a real shame!

Now I searched the forum and I see this has been discussed but does anybody know of a work around or something? I noticed somebody released a toolbar that reintroduces the duration buttons - which is definitely a start, but this really is a shame! I love using Cakewalk but now I'm worried about future versions !

The speedy notation system was the reason I picked Cakewalk in the first place over other sequencers. I must admit X1 looks so awesome, and I'd love to dive into it more...maybe I'll just have to develop super speed going back from holding down the ctrl+shift shortcuts back to the mouse....lol.

Edit: Alright - I see you can assign different shortcuts...still quite odd for me - and what about the snap settings? Can't get them to work at all - seems like they're set up for the entire project, not a seperate snap for the score editor - makes it tough to notate...any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

    Hi Chris,
If all else fails, give SONAR Plus a try. It adds note duration buttons to the Staff View menu amongst other things:
    Thanks,

Thanks Ben that does look like a great addition - will speed things up a little bit. I can't try it because I'm on the demo version, but I suppose if I decide to make the jump that will be the first thing I'll download.

Any other ideas/input on this topic? I'm curious to hear how some of the composers here used to the old format have been managing with X1. Just found out I can re-assign keys  - gonna be a hard habit to break but it might be good afterall!
