"Start Screen" should have link to manual and Cakewalk Content folder

I suggest that the new Start Screen have a link to the Sonar manual.

Where is the manual, anyways? I thought there was a pdf manual for Sonar.
I want to look up various things but nowhere can I find any info if a manual even exists.

Also, the Cakewalk Contents folder should be linked in the Start Screen too. We already have "Advanced Workshop - Modern Drum Production in SONAR" and no easy way to access it.

Thank you.

    VERY GOOD IDEA!! There are all sorts of useful things it could have here.
    A help button as well so people know it is there (yep  I know F1).

    If you installed the SONAR Local Documentation package, the SONAR Reference Guide.pdf is installed in the folder with the program. Keep in mind the pdf is a snapshot of the help from the original release. The local chm and web-based help are current.

    Thanks scook.
    As you said, I found the pdf's in the default installation path  "C:\Program Files\cakewalk\SONAR Platinum"

    Where is the web based help? I am having a hard time finding it.
    Thanks.

    If you want to integrate the pdf into SONAR, it is possible to add the Reference Guide  to the SONAR Utilities menu. Here is a snapshot of the setup using SONARToolEditor (the actual pdf reader path depends on your installation).

    That's both awesome and clever. Mind if I steal it for a Friday's Tip of the Week, with attribution? (Of course, I won't use your native Alpha Centaurian name, but the pseudonym you use when visiting earth. Your secret is safe with me.)

    Fine by me
    The registry export looks like this

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Reference Guide]
    "Type"="Generic"
    "ExePath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Adobe\\Acrobat Reader DC\\Reader\\AcroRd32.exe"
    "MenuText"="Reference Guide"
    "CurrentDirectory"="C:\\Program Files\\Cakewalk\\SONAR Platinum"
    "Args"="\"SONAR Reference Guide.pdf\""

    It is also easy to bind to a shortcut, the autohotkey script binding the pdf to Windows+p is
    #p::
      Run, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\SONAR Reference Guide.pdf"

    @scook - I have tried to make the Ref Guide entry according to your recipe, but it doesn't work for me. When I select the Ref Guide item on the Utilities menu, the document does not appear. After that, even attempting directly to start Adobe Reader fails. If I look at Task Manager, I can see that the menu item creates two background processes called AcroRd32.exe. If I End Task on one of these, both processes terminate immediately. I can then directly start Adobe Reader and open pdfs as expected. Any ideas what I am doing wrong, please?

    I'd take a look at windows task bar toolbars.  They changed my life.  I have a Music toolbar in which the top level has links to my music programs, and folders (within the toolbar) containing links to all help files and manuals, utilities, and specialized stuff like links to sfz-related things.  So my manual is always three mouseclicks away whether I'm in Sonar or not.

    Great idea, and I agree 100%!! I put shortcuts for all my music-related programs into a folder called Programs, and made that a toolbar. Now all programs are even easier to access than from the start menu.

    Updated PDF "snapshots" on a regular basis

    I personally like the PDF format. It would be nice to see a regular, updated "snapshot" If not every name release, at least every x months.

    Do-able?

    Thanks,
