Start screen only works when connected to the internet.

Hi guys, I know that other people have had no issues, but I'm having a problem where the start screen only works if my computer is connected to the internet. I'm not connected it shows and the left hand menu is there but nothing is in the main pane where recent projects should be or templates. I disconnect  the computer from the net when recording and mixing, which is all this computer is used for, and only connect for updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
