Stay (Pop/Rock Demo)
I'm still filing down the rough edges on this one I'm working on. The track is a throwback of sorts to the late 80's sound that I grew up on. It's one man band performance. I wrote, tracked and produced the thing on my own and I'm looking for some feedback. http://soundcloud.com/irish916/stay - All the music was recorded in mixed in Sonar X1.
- Vocals were tracked through a B-2 condensor into Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.
- Guitars were a mix of direct patched distorted guitars using my Pod X3 Live, as well as direct signal processed by guitar rig 5.
- Bass was from the NI Scarbee Collection (M-Bass), played via my M-Audio keystation and edited in Sonar's midi editor
- Drums are Toontrack Superior using the Metal Machine expansion. Grooves were boxed from Toontrack, edited in Sonar's Midi Editor
- Keys- Pianos provided in Sonar X1

OK, I just commented on your other song a moment ago. This is entirely different which showcases your versatility. There are some production issues here, but I'll let others comment on that for now. It does capture the 80's quite well, and your performances are top notch. I like the guitar tones, in particular, and the variety of textures, in general. I'm going to avoid making comparisons to other bands and just call this a nice stew of several major influences. Well done.

Well done. Thanks for checking it out Lynn. I appreciate your comparisons to the other track. I like to write a wide variety of music. There are some other tracks that I'll be sharing shortly that branch out even further. The 80's influences a lot of what I do, even in those other styles. I've always liked a big mix as some of my most influential producers like Fairbairn, Rock and Lange. This track in particular is more of a mix in progress. I look forward to hearing what some of resident experts recommend.

It has 80's elements but I still thought sounded fresh and relevant.

Vocals, excellent. Bit of a cheap trick thing going on, which is high praise indeed. But...to my ears, the drums are a bit lagging, bringing the tempo down. But nice sound overall.

Guitar tones and voice is excellent. I'd like to hear some more definition on the bass. It's not "bad" just a little lost, IMO. I'm not 100% sold on the drums (levels, tone and grooves). Sorry. This song need some killer drums. They were just there for me.

Agree with Bapu ^^, the drums are letting down what could be a great production. They're over complicated IMO, this song needs a good groove. fantastic vocal performance however, and a killer guitar solo.

kinda has a Bon Jovi element to it, which is neat. i like the break at 3:20. the mix is a tad 'shrill' maybe you can warm it up some in another mastering pass etc...

I liked your vocal - reminds me in some places of Robin Zander - liked the delay on your vocals. Like the 1st verse and the guitar sound was terrific.. I was expecting a short pre-chorus and then a slam into the chorus so I think the dynamics weren't to my liking - but that's just my taste. Good job Allan www.youtube.com/user/Kittibutt

I think you hit it in stating things are over complicated- require simplifying. I appreciate you taking the time to listen.
