No bread left anywhere on the way home - there goes my "peanut butter sandwich" survival kit.

Just watching The Weather Channel and caught a look at the map and NJ is mapped as being in extreme danger from Irene as a possible cat 1 hurricane. What scared me even more is they were talking about tornadoes embedded as part of this mess.

Neighbor's got a couple of guys coming out to take down a HUGE tree in his yard today (Saturday). I'm talking like 50 feet if not more. I hope they get it done before the storm hits. If this tree falls the wrong way in the storm a couple of houses could get hit big time.

Might say I'm a bit scared and I've seen and been in some heavy weather.

Went to the store yesterday to get extra matches; thankfully we have been stockpiling food for some time because the stock people had a heck of a time keeping things on the shelves. This was at 2PM yesterday. Still some bread left on the shelves. Long line at the deli section. What I'm surprised was still on shelves in major quantity were canned fruits and such. Most people don't realize that not only is it food, but there's plenty of fluid in there as well as the energy boost you'll get from the sugar which is a plus in this case. We have a couple of hand crank can openers so we should be okay.

A couple of thins to think about with cooking food: hot dogs can be eaten without cooking, as well as most canned foods because these things are cooked as part of the canning process. Sure it might taste weird but at least you'll have something in your belly.

Looks like NC is going to see landfall soon.

Stay safe all.

I not sure if some people actually realize fruit can be eaten..

The panic buying of bread is odd too, when you consider how quickly it goes mouldy.

Just caught the tail end of a report that said (I think) the hurricane category had been downgraded, hope I heard that right.

I was actually surprised to see all the people who were there buying beer last night - even by Friday night standard. I'm not talking about little 6-packs either.

I'm not one to panic, but the last thing I'd want to do in such a situation is to lessen my reflexes w/ booze. But that's just me I guess.

if you're gonna be locked in the house... you need something to do....

and besides, booze makes you braver...."Hey honey... I think I'll go up on the roof and nail those loose shingles down before they ALL blow off in this wind.....can you hold this extension ladder for me? "
