Steel guitar or lap steel guitar

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good steel guitar vi such as heard in country songs. The regular guitar vi's don't cut it for me.

Thanks,
Fred

No, I don't know of any. There's a patch on a roland synth of mine, but it doesn't cut it, either. The sound is probably all in the amp -- you might try piping a telecaster double pickup sound through a good amp simulator. Then lay on the pitch wheel for the slide. What's hard to do are the kind of single note slides one can do with a pedal steel -- requires a little finessing of the control track to bend one note while the other two stay centered on a pitch, all with a light vibrato going.

Maybe that's one reason why I haven't seen a ped.steel vsti to date.

SampleHeads has WHOLE LOTTA COUNTRY. Which does include a pedal steel guitar. Sony has a set of loops which can be useful if sequencing a steel seems to tricky.

I have the sf2 sample heads set. That can be coverted to sfz if you so desire to use that in Dimension.

It would be cool to see a pedal steel VST..but I'm thinking that would have to be a hard thing to do. With the pedals & levers, a steel can play some astounding things. That would be hard to duplicate in a VST accurately.

If anyone knows of a free vst for pedal steel, please post or PM me with the link. I'd like to check it out.

Here's a post I made in another Pedal Steel thread, where I mention a soundfont I liked. - Tom
