Step Sequencer

Hi All

I'm having some issues with Step Sequencer or maybe its having issues with me.

I have created a drum track for a song from start to finish by copying and pasting my SS clips. No I want to go back and add some varition to make it less mechanical. So I go to bar 4 of my verse right click the the SS clips and choose 'Unlink Step Sequencer Clips'.

That lets me add variations without altering the first 3 bars, however, it also loses / changes all the velocity settings. As in all the hits are no louder or quieter than the previous 3 clips even though the velocity settings in the SS slip are identical it puts out different volumes?

Any ideas?

I also had real issues unlinking step sequencer clips the other day. It just would not do it, but sems to be working ok today, I just need to get this sorted. Its to noticable, like i'm using slighty different loops (volume wise)

Thanks
Dean

Wow I noticed that noone responded to you yet! Not nice.  I have recently been trying to "train" myself to use step sequencer better and have been advised to check out the Master Class video's on Cake TV - Sonar University -it is on the drop down "Community" list above on this Cakewalk page. I really did learn a lot and the presenter has some very nice "trick" I never would know on how to make the drum track sound way more real, less mechanical, etc..... I opened a project just for doing this with Session Drummer 3, and had the video opened at the same time, and kept clicking back and forth as I followed and did everything he showed. Granted that does not match a specific project I am working on, but the things I learned should not really help me....   Hope you will check out my music on Soundclick - link below (those were done way before learning this new stuff.... )

Im not a very good drummer but I have always created my drum tracks by playing the parts on the keyboard( controller) to a metronome or hi hat click track. All I do is some quantizizing and basic editing. It might take 3 or more different tracks.  I find this way faster than messing with loops. I can finish a fairly complicated drum track in less than a half hour this way. My dream would be a set of digital drums. Just a though in case  you've never considered working that way. It's more fun too! Boom boom Bap! Boom Boom Bap! Crash! :?

    Anyone?

I was using SS again the other night. I was trying to create a simpe 16 bar groove in 4 x 4 bar sections with small variations through each.

I created section 1 and 2 from scratch, I then copied SS clip one and pasted it where section 3 / bars 8-12 would be, make a few variations (remove crash for example), right click, unlink SS clips and straight away all variations are applied to section 1 or bars 1-4.

Every time I unlink SS clips it changes the data on the SS clip I copied from. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong? do I unlink the original or copied clip?

I have watched Seth's videos and I know there are other ways of recording parts (MIDI keyboard) which is great when having more time. But i would use SS when I need something quick and easy, a few clicks, copy, paste, few clicks, enable loop, DONE.

    Thanks

What version of Sonar are you using?

I've never seen that behavior in the original SS in 8PE. I haven't used the current version much yet.
I'll try to recreate the problem if I can.
