Step Sequencer will only play first bar then stops

Bare with me as I've just started using Sonar X1...I'm following the online tutorial (from Cakewalk) to create a drum track using Session Drummer 3 and Step Sequencer. I set up 8 drum tracks and am using the Sizzle Kit Wet for the sounds. In step sequencer I added the hi hat and tried to play it, but it stops after the 1st bar and won't play the rest. No matter where I start the playback from, it only plays about 1 bar. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

My system:
  • quad core processor (2.0 GHz, but up scales to 2.8 GHz as needed)
  • 8 GB ram
  • 500 GB 7200 rpm HD
  • Digidesign MBox 2 mini (using ASIO drivers with 256 buffer set)
  • Windows 7 64 bit
  • Sonar Producer 64 bit

Thanks in advance for any help!

how many bars of midi source do you have?  This would be the track(s) with the midi notes in them..... how many measures have notes in them past the first measure/bar?

You would see this in the track view.

I set it for 8 in 4/4 time. I only have hi hat (set by right clicking and choosing 2...to play 8ths). Hi hat is set to play all 8 bars. That's it. No other drums set to play yet.

OK, so I tried unplugging the Mbox 2 and use the built in sound card in my computer to see if it would work, thus eliminating ram, processor, and HD bottlenecks. After reassigning sound devices and Master bus, it works! Does anyone know what that means? Is my Mbox 2 mini too slow or have bad drivers?

    Again...Thanks in advance for advice/help.

After a little more experimentation, I was able to get the MBOX 2 working by NOT using the ASIO drivers. Does anyone know how to get the ASIO drivers working with Sonar? I found some forum posts elsewhere and some have said they only work with ProTools. Can anyone verify? Thanks.

You should ALWAYS use the ASIO drivers if the hardware supports them.

Switch it back to ASIO drivers and manually run the WAVE PROFILER again. It should see the hardware with the ASIO drivers. Select the hardware (Mbox2) as the input and output.

    Now try it.

Guitarhacker, I did what you suggested. It sees the ASIO driver and lets me select it, but it is still freezing after 1 measure with the ASIO driver. It plays fine with the regular windows driver. I'm using the newest drivers I can find. The MBOX I'm using is from Digidesign, which was bought out by Avid which makes finding new drivers very difficult. I appreciate the help. Any other ideas?

By the way Guitarhacker, checked out your site and music...Excellent! Did you record and play all yourself?
