Stereo Tracks Not Stereo?
I have a clip in the Browser that plays with clear stereo separation. However, when I drop it into a new audio track the separation is reduced by about 60%. The audio track is stereo and both the browser and the track are routed out to the same device. I have noticed this with all of my projects. Any ideas?

Bump... This is a problem. It ends up in my mixdowns with the reduced stereo as well. Any thoughts?

Do you mean to say if you imported audio which was silent on the left with a click on the right, and then exported it from Sonar and played it back with your right speaker turned off, you would still be hearing it?

Ooo... Maybe. That's a great experiment. I'll try it and post my results.

Ok, so I dropped a stereo track into Audacity, panned it all hard left. Once I mixed down the Audacity track to WAV and dropped it into Sonar (drag-and-drop directly from my desktop) it sounded perfect: Right was mute and Left was as I expected with no bleed. However, if I dropped the file into a track from Sonar's Browser, the left side of the track was about 60% of it's original value. The right side still remained mute. This is getting weirder and weirder...

That is certainly very bizarre. Don't have time to check it out right now but at least we know to stay away from the browser!!

What's the waveform look like after you drag it in from the Browser? And do you get the same results when dragging it from the Browser into free space, allowing SONAR to generate a new track?

When you play a clip in the browser, it goes through a bus designated as the audio preview bus. When you drag it to a new track, the track is routed to your "default" bus. Those two buses might have different level (input gain & volume) settings. Dragging into any existing track also is subject to that track's levels.

This is a long shot... But if any track other than the one you're dragging to is Dim Soloed, you'd see what you're seeing. Does your Mix Module look like this?: If Not: If you do it in a fresh project (from the Normal Template), do you see the same thing, still?

He had accidentally set his master bus interleave to mono. That would result in the 2 sides summing and more perceived loudness. Definitely not what's happening here.

Yup. I found far more annoying things to get befuddled by today. Sorted out now though... I think.

Re-read the replies... going to do some more testing. This is happening again on a new project so I'm pretty desperate to get it fixed. I'll keep you posted.
