Steve Hackett Tonight

I am about to head up the M5 to Bristol to see Steve Hackett. I am looking forward to this one.

I would not ming catching this one if he comes around, but in all honesty, he has enough music on his own, that I do not want to hear GENESIS stuff again until after I'm dead! It's over played and one video on the net, even has the fan going ... "wow, he even sounds like Peter Gabriel" ... like you need to be told, and it needs to sound exactly like him, and such ... it just made me totally sick.
 
If he played his first album in its entirety, I would be much happier and then infuse some of his other work, which is very good. But GENESIS, I can do without the rest of the way!
 
I would like to hear FISH doing a couple of these things ... at least he is an actor and his voice would be much more accurate and appropriate for the PG material ... instead of a carbon copy!

In which case you could have gone to the pub after the interval
 
The first set as all solo material, while the stand out to me was "Behind the Smoke" from the recent "Night Siren" album, it was an altogether remarkable set with some great music. The band is superb.
  
The second set was almost 100% Genesis with an emphasis on Wind and Wuthering. One could cynically say “tribute band” or do like me and the rest of the audience and sit back and enjoy it. Nad Slyvan is a rather flamboyant character, I can see some may not take to him, suffice to say his vocal impressions are uncannily accurate.
 
I rather enjoyed drummer Gary O’Tool’s more natural vocal performance on “Blood on the Roof Tops”. “Musical Box” was a fitting climax to the main set.  The Encore was “Tower Struck Down” and “Squonk” There seemed to be considerable amusement in the band when, (I think) Nic Beggs’ guitar tech came on dressed as Squonk.  
 
Doing the Genesis stuff brings in punters and probably funds the interesting and challenging music Steve is still producing.

I don't dislike GENESIS ... I have heard this since the day that SEBTP came as an Import, and I have moved on ... since that and TLLDOB, I have not really bothered with GENESIS a whole lot (I do have and like TOTT), as by that time, I had already gotten into the rest of the European scene that was vastly superior and not a carbon copy. I much preferred, and still do, Banco, PFM, Ange, Focus, Kayak and many other bands, even from Spain (Granada, Triana and others), who worked really hard to make something special and in all honesty, they succeeded, in not repeating themselves, unlike some better known folks. Banco is supreme in this area!
 
Nothing against SH ... but the others deserve some attention, too!

I would have liked to see that Glyn, been watching quite a bit of Hackett on YT lately. He seems like a very thoughtful, genuine guy in interviews too. Love his playing style.
