I took the offer two days ago. Installation is easy, the new platform isn't the prettiest thing I've seen but does the job well, the included grooves are solid, and the sounds are very good. Well worth the $29 for the upgrade.

Price is right, sounds good but, the GUI would take some getting used to.

    Purrrfect Audio DAW here.  Wow!...

    Hi, Guys,

Three quick questions for anyone who already did the upgrade.

    1.  Are the actual 4.0 drum and cymbal samples noticeably better sounding than 3.5?

    2. Can anyone please clarify the actual upgrade price to the full 4.0 Platinum if I already own 3.5 EX and two expansion packs?

    3. Can both the 3.5 Kontak version and new SSD 4.0 versions coexist on the same machine without problems?

Much thanks in advance for any helpful opinions and info!

    Bob,

    1. Marginally better, IMO. The GUI is better than Kontakt, IMO
    2. Don't know now, but when initially released I did not get all that great of a deal and I had 3.5EX with all the packs.
    3. Yes, only remember you will be essentially doubling the size of your sample content (IOW, the sample content is not shared between the two products).

I upgraded from EX and I had a number of expansions. You don't get all the expansion with EX 4, I have since upgraded to Platinum and got everything back and more besides.

I can say I see a major difference in sound. On the down side you loose the immense versatility of the Kontakt interface, but on the up side you replace it with something far more user friendly. Unless you really want to delve deep into sample manipulation the new interface is better.

    Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

Hey, thanks a lot to both Ed and Glyn for giving me your opinions.  I'm still on the fence about the full Platinum upgrade, so I think I'll try to contact them to see what the actual upgrade discount is from 3.5 EX with two expansion packs.

On the voucher page it mentions, "EX 3.x to Platinum 4.0: from $50 to $150 discount (depending on number of expansion packs)", that's a pretty wide range.

    Thanks, guys for your input!

I tried the discount and on the first page it was $49 but after going through the process of the code etc it ended up at $29 for the Ex package.

My point is you can see the final price before purchase, Bob. You may be able to do the same with the Platinum package and see what it ends up at.
