Steven Slate Drums and Kontakt 4 advice please...

Hi guys

A while back, I purchased some Steven Slate drum kits/samples as an AudioMidi No Brainer deal. Using the version of Kontakt 3 that came with the download, they ran fine on my old PC - both as a standalone and in the VST version of Kontakt inside SONAR.

Anyway, I was doing a bit of housekeeping on the newer PC yesterday and I came across the Steven Slate folder I'd transferred over from the old PC - I didn't use them much in SONAR so I guess it's one of those VST/VSTi's I planned to reinstall if I came across a project that needed them.

According to the documentation, to use the samples with Kontakt, you have to run Steven Slate Setup PC.exe and  KontaktPlayer3setup.exe, both which were contained in the original download. Unfortunately, I can only find the samples folder, not the executables.

The download link to the original purchase has long since gone, so to try and be able to use my samples, I've downloaded, installed and authorised the free version of Kontakt 4 and it appears to be working fine, both in standalone mode and scanned into X1 as a VSTi.

However, I'm not having any success assigning Kontakt 4 to host the Steven Slate samples.

I've successfully pointed Kontakt to the Steven Slate folder(s), but whenever I attempt to load a kit, I get the message "This patch is encrypted and cannot be loaded unless the respective library is registered properly":

Any ideas how I go about registering the Steve Slate stuff to Kontakt? I checked the Slate website and as far as I can tell I've never had to visit there before to register them for the other PC.

Or is there another sample player I could try that would work inside SONAR?

Or could the samples be loaded into EZ Drummer or Superior Drummer 2?

As you can tell, I'm not very bright with this sort of thing!

You can set the .wav files up in any sampler you like but it would take ages to make up the patches.

You'd have to email S Slate for details on registering the library for Kontakt Player 4.

IIRC I had to log onto NI's site too but it's so long ago I can't remember what the procedure was.

I hope I don't have to re-install mine at some point as I'd be clueless too.

I don't have an answer for you Steve but I can say that I have become very timid about using sample libraries that I can't just drag into a folder and start using.

I have a bunch of Infinite player stuff and I've only installed half of it. I doubt I'll ever take the time time to reinstall the half I do use when it's time for a new system.

    Good luck.

    best regards,
    mike

Jon, Mike - thanks for the quick replies.

I had a similar problem transferring my Nomad Factory AudioMidi no-brainer deal plugs across - I contacted AudioMidi in the first instance because the link had been deleted and they sent me straight to the NF download page. They worked fine with the original registration details from AudioMidi!

I think I'll e-mail them both though; just because they were ridiculously cheap shouldn't mean I can't transfer tham to a different PC and carry on using them should it.

Strummy I had the exact same issue as you when I recently upgraded to Win7 on my DAW, had the same error message.  I had the library residing on another drive Went to the forums looking for answers and couldn't find anything

LUCKLY, I found the original download on a portable HD with the Slate Drum package, and upon doing a re-install of it, Kontakt then recognized it .

Apparently it needs some part of the install program to put a key somewhere for Kontakt.. Perhaps as mentioned earlier, an email to Steve could help?

<edit:> Yeah, what Maurice said below.

I was thinking Superior when I wrote my previous +1 to mm100.

You should have a reg code from SSD.  Run NI's Service Center and it will ask for the SSD reg code.

    UPDATE:

Wow, I heard back from Slate Digital just after they opened up support at 9am PST.

They've set me up a fresh download including both the .exe's I need.

Now that's what I call excellent service

    Hi, Steve,

I'm glad SS got you squared away and back in business.

Just for the record, in my own experience, I believe you have to use the same version of Kontakt that the specific library was developed in.  In my case, my Ocean Way Drums Gold, which came with Kontakt 2 would give me the same error that you received, when I tried to open it in Kontakt 3 which came with my Steven Slate Drums.

Anyway, good luck with the new DAW. I have a brand new one sitting here for six weeks, but I'm not looking forward to spending eternity installing, authorizing, and transferring everything again just to get it up and running.  I may try your technique and just install the gazillion plugins only as needed, when I open each project.

Have a good one, buddy, and please shoot me a PM when you get your first project with Ruby posted,  I can't wait to hear that beauty!

    Bob

    Thanks Bob!

The Kontakt 3 exe is included in my new download so what you say makes sense.
