Still I Believe

hey friends,

this is a song I wrote for my best friend who died two years ago today. I recorded it this morning. It doesn't have any bells or whistles; I set up two mics and recorded the stereo feed from my little mixer. I didn't want to share the production as much as the words and the song itself. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it even encourages you.

you can find it here:

    lyrics:

    Still I Believe

My eyes burn tonight as I walk past your empty room
I sit inside the silence left behind, and wonder why your gone so soon
And lately I've been too sad to cry, it seems that relief can't be found
But I remember the light and joy in your eyes; the way you would laugh out loud.

I could not believe what I'd been told. Only 21 - your hand has grown cold.
Yet still I believe the Savior's peace you know, and a love as bold as life,
and a life as bold as Christ.

Two years it's been since I've seen you my friend without a chance to say goodbye.
But when we meet again, there will be no more sin, no sorrow, nor reason to cry.

I could not believe what I'd been told. Only 21 - your hand has grown cold.
Yet still I believe the Savior's peace you know, and a love as bold as life,
and a life as bold as Christ.

You struggle no more, and victory is yours. Your hope's been realized.
Helpless in the flood, but through the gracious blood, you were brought to life.
And Christ says, "He is mine!"

Romans 8:1 - Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

    Your closed door reminds me...

I could not believe what I'd been told. Only 21 - your hand has grown cold.
Yet still I believe the Savior's peace you know, and a love as bold as life,
and a life as bold as Christ.

The vocals sound a little muddy dude? And the last one I heard from you was 'PERFECT' so I expect perfection from you. It distracted so much that I really couldn't enjoy the other aspects of the song :-( Could you possibly remix it and repost it? You are VERY talented... And I "expect" great things from you.

    ==edit==

And I by no means want to sound or seem insensitive to your loss... I have lost so much.. I know how pain feels, and I sympathize :-( But as a tribute for your friend? It needs to be as good as it can be? Really, I want to hear the re-mix. I'm sure it will be great because "you" are great.

Your friend must have been special. You are very talented and very worthy of seeing your friend again it seems. Thanks for sharing! Beautiful tribute.

I have to agree, a fine tribute.

Were you planing taking it further? If so, I have to agree with Robby, its not up to your usual standards. But I can also understand leaving it as it is.

(Nothing like sitting on the fence eh? )

    Cheers

    thanks everyone.

yea, i am planning a "full band" version, it will be the closer on a concept CD I would like to record this fall all based around my friend Jason. I have some exciting ideas for this song in that project, but I wanted to get this out for his family and friends on the anniversary. And there isn't much mixing I can do; I recorded a stereo track of two mics, so everything will be processed together. I could EQ and compress some to get the volume up, but I would rather spend that time on the rockin' version later.

thanks for the listens, I will be sure to post the full version when it is done.
