Still In Shock!

Hi Gang!

This is so very sad... I feel so badly for The Bakers. They deserve so much more for all their' dedication and hard work... crowned with superb achievments!

First reactions have passed but I continue to be in a state of shock as Cakewalk has so long been a central part of my life.

I know my install of Sonar will continue to work and serve me well for quite some time, but as these new facts develope it is obvious I will be looking to get up to speed on another DAW. None of them are attractive to me (Obviously or I would have changed already), so the choices are very hard.... Difficult to feel as if I'm stepping backward!

PT? PITA for me, but maybe best decision? Though there's no way I can get up to flagship, but I'm confused a bit about what differences there are other than the hardware choices...

S1 3? Does things well, but I'm leary of Presonus after their recent poorly handled changes regarding VSL and I find viewing their DAW hard on my eyes..

Logic Pro X? I've only played with this one a tiny bit and found it relatively intuitive, but of course this would force me to live in the OSX world which I do not care for...

Oh, woe..... as if losing my business and my home wasn't enough this passed year or so. It was consoling to always return to Sonar and the Forum!

My best wishes to all and hopes that we somehow manage to stay connected!

Keni

Hey Keni, I’m still in a bit of shock, too. Been using Sonar since 5. Oddly enough I’ve been co-using Mixbus as an after-tracking mix environment with Sonar. Not as full featured but takes the sting out of needing to completely re-learn a new DAW. I’m leaning towards S1, seems good enough but I’m not a power user like lots of others. Mixcraft is another possibility I suppose.
Sorry about your business and home, hope to see you in the next user environment we all may end up in.
    All the best,
    Michael.

Yeah, I have S1 3 Artist and have tinkered with it... Not the most comfortable fit for me, but I believe I could get my work done. Right now hurting from not having the flagship version so missing the use of many 3rd party softwares such as AD2 and Amplitube 3 and the likes which I depend on...

They have a $80 add-in that would allow the use of VST's and another $10 add in for mp3 export, but once I've spent that I may as well have spent a touch more and bought the crossgrade.... Waiting to hear the expected announcement for a special crossgrade for Sonar users...

I also have ProTool First installed on both my OSX partition as well as my Windows partition, but again so entry level that it's not enough, so I must decide on a future selection knowing I will have to select one of them eventually... or if I become willing to live in OSX I would consider Logic Pro X as my little exposure to it has been very positive...

I don't WANT to change! I plan on using Sonar until something absolutely forces me to change... There is nothing as good, let alone better! <sigh>...

you better disconnect your Sonar equipped computer from the internet, then. Windows 10 sneaks in an update a LOT. It did it to me and completely disabled Sonar. Just warning you.

I'm still Win 7 ... haven't upgraded it since 2009, Sonar Pro is solid and crash free. I'm sticking with it for as long as my DAW lives.

Luckily (?) This machine is topped out at Win 8.1 as the hardware is too old to support Win10...

    I still control my updates...
